I really don't know what kind of options there are, but this is just a request that I think lots of people might like <3
The inbox limit for normal members right now is like 25 messages. (sent and received combined?) but a staff gets like 100-250 (something like that). Is there a way to auto-add members with maybe 1000+ posts to a class and give them a little more space? It really does come down to house cleaning but it does run out often.

nanashi1; when you send a pm, it saves Sent items, and Received items. both take up the total space. You can disable sent messages from being saved, but idk if you'd want to do that.

I would kill for this!!
Hosting the mafia game that is primarily Pm based; I find myself checking to see if my inbox is full every five minutes.
And I still some fail to see when it's full, and end up getting visitor messages say I need to clear my inbox.

Hmm yeah... a bit more would be nice... what would be the costs to increasing the pm limit? :/

I would gladly donate to this cause.
But I agree Sammy, I wouldn't want to crash the site because of a memory issue.
I like this place too much :fulfilled:

Is annoying, but it is truth, what Samy and Sint say: Because that would at the update/remake the Inbox/PM-area again very lot time and money cost, at that it work would.

After some internal discussion, these are what the majority of active administrators agreed on:
  1. Members who have at least 100 posts and have been registered for 30 days can now store up to 250PMs.
    .
  2. Members who don't fulfil the above requirements will have no change to their PM box capacity (i.e. it stays 25). This is to ensure that we only allocate more capacity to members who have been quite active on the forum.
    .
  3. Uploaders can now store up to 500 PMs.
    .
  4. Certain groups of staff members have also had their PM box capacity increased.
Hope the changes are good enough. They have been applied and members status has been updated accordingly. Please report here if you spot anything wrong.

I think I may love you!

An increase by ten fold is pretty impressive. :)

Now I may never have want for space. Even my regular email accounts don't have nearly that many with how I clean them.

Why yes, there is a cap, of course. We're not an email service provider. Most members who socialise on the forum use either groups, VMs, or simply threads, and private messaging is definitely not an ordinary means of communication (that is, it has specific needs).

Allow me to let you in on a bit of statistics: at the time of writing,
  • A total of 37600 members (92.34%) only have 1 PM in their PM box. That one PM is likely what Imouto sent them when they joined.
  • Only 146 members (0.36%) have more than 20 PMs stored in their inbox, 24 of which have exactly 25 PMs. Shows how much the PM feature is used, hmm?
  • Only 326 members (0.8%) qualify for the increased PM box size.
The majority of us believe that 25 was way too low for our dedicated members such as yourselves who post here, and we think 250 is more than enough for most. There may be a minuscule percentage among you who need more than 250, but we think raising the capacity even more to cater to the minority is an unnecessary move.

Therefore, at least for now, we ask that the minority who really need more than 250 take the liberty of cleaning up their inbox once in a while if and when they've surpassed the threshold.

Otherwise, I'm pleased to see that the increase seems to satisfy most. If there is no other dissenting voice to the decision, I'll conclude the issue resolved and have the thread closed later today.

I need a bigger mailbox. This isn't the first time it's gotten full either. :D

Today I got the devilish number:
You have 666 messages stored, of a total 1,000 allowed.

Mine happens to get full once or twice already.

I believe 250 PMs should be enough for any social member. Uploaders do get 500 because you usually get requests of reuploads via pm.

I always clean my inbox out once a week...

My favorite message: You have 299 messages stored out of a total of 300 allowed.
