been using utorrent but recently seeing many recommending qBittorrent. any one has any take on qBittorrent?

I have been using qbitorrent for 5 years, and without problems, there is no advertising or anything, recommended.

thanks for the input, yeah been using it and so far its been good.

If you are capable of Chinese and have access to alipay or other chinese payment method. I recommend 115 to download some old or weird torrets at FULL SPEED. I don't know what crazy magic they used but it works just fine.

i've been using qBittorrent for about... 5-6 years now on Linux and Windows.
Works flawlessly out of the box.
Though with some tinkering it becomes even better for example using a Waterfox add-on that automatically copies Magnet Links to qBittorrent and starts the downloads automatically, so all you do is right-click the magnet link -> Send to qBittorrent and just wait, less clicking.

Open Source & no Ads. Can't complain.

Just keep in mind that qBittorrent will leak your real IP by default if you're using a VPN. It probably doesn't matter for most people here, but it matters for people living in countries that are strict with copyright.

This was from 2020.

Also, this was posted here too, not to mention that the author couldn't even replicate that issue.

"
Currently this happens on two occassions...

  1. You start qBt with VPN disconnected(even with VPN interface selected).
  2. Your VPN disconnects/crashes while qBt is running. Some sockets get reopened on the main interface even though you selected VPN interface.

The latter got fixed in latest libtorrent. And the former will get fixed in qBt probably before next release."

In any case, anybody using a VPN i'd highly advise to activate a killswitch, so when the VPN disconnects for whatever reason, the internet connection is immediately cut.

NordVPN has that feature implemented (atleast for Linux) very well. No clue about Windows.

I can confirm the issue myself. That's why I mentioned it. The problem is not with the kill switch, I use a VPN with killswitch too, it still exposed my real IP.

qbittorent is good. But most vpns wouldn't work with it unless you configure it.
NordVPN and BulletVPN works natively. Surfshark, Hotspotshield etc needs additional configuration.
You can just use ant download manager (It can download torrents) or Brave as well ( not good for big files).
Overall qbittorent is the best and safer.
I have used flashget and frostwire as well. But they were not reliable.

or Windows Nord and Bulletvpn works natively with qbit. But Surfshark leaks your ip, same goes for hotspotshield. There are workarounds, but still not fixed natively.
ipleak.net would help in case there's any doubt. :)

It is a real issue. You can use Nordvpn and BulletVPN. These two would natively mask your ip on qbit.
Surfshark, Hotspotshield, Keepsolid,iprovpn etc don't.
I think fastestvpn and expressvpn also masks it.

Thanks for the additional information. But yes, the VPN that I used didn't mask my IP on qBittorrent even with kill switch enabled.
