Maybe I should have said that from the beginning, I usually don't have problems with these kind of games because I have all my computer settings on Japanese, well, if there's nothing else you need, have fun! :).

It's good to know that you solved the problem, just one question, if it isn't much indiscretion, you have your machine locale set to Japanese, I mean in Control Panel->Language and Region->Regional and Language Options and in the Administrative tab, is the Language for non-Unicode programs set to Japanese?
Judging by the size of the file I could say that is a complete version of the game, to be honest I haven't played this particular game because I don't have any interest on it, but I'll try to help as much as I can, let's start with this, how about downloading it from here:

If this one doesn't works then send me some screenshots so I can see where's the problem or at least try to understand a little better what's going on with the game :).
There's a catch with Selen games as far as I played some of them, specially with Shakkin Shimai 2, and this is that they need a serial number in order to be played, also and equally important, dummy cut versions does not works because once you introduce the serial, the program runs a check to of the authenticity of the game and for that end it only checks some of the dummy files in the image you have mounted, so if you have a dummy cut version it will never work, that's the reason why I had to download again Shakkin Shimai 2.
The real problem here is that serial numbers are usually given with the game when you download it and if not, it'll be pretty hard to find.
However if you got the serial and the full version of the game then just leave the image mounted on the virtual drive and use the serial, and wait for the program to finish the check, if not leave me another message and we'll see what we can do, good luck :).
