Well not counting Pokemon since I was like 6 and didn't know what anime was 
It would have to be around the time we got internet in our house for the first time, which was around 2015, found out about Pewdiepie and saw him playing Corpse Party which I think was the 2008 version of the game. Later I found out there was an anime of the game and watched it all and loved it (unlike if I'd watch it nowadays). After that I wanted to watch more and more anime going from Genshiken to Sakura Trick and finding out what yuri (and yaoi) meant to many more titles like Fruit of Grisaia (the vn too) and Clannad (also vn too)
