The protagonist, Isomiya Tomoko, played by Koshiba Fuka, is forced into a loveless political marriage with Tokugawa Ieharu, played by Kamenashi Kazuya, and is at the mercy of an inescapable fate, facing various trials before her.
It is the mid-Edo period, and the economy is steadily worsening, forcing the Japanese people to live frugally, save money, and work hard. The gap between rich and poor is only widening, and people are eagerly waiting for the arrival of a Shogun who can improve the economy and enrich the country and its people. Meanwhile, the previous 9th Shogun, Tokugawa Ieshige, dies mysteriously, Ieharu becomes the 10th Shogun, and Michiko is forced into a political marriage with the 10th Shogun, Tokugawa Ieshige, and travels from Kyoto to the Ooku, where men are not allowed, as the Shogun's wife. There she finds nearly 1000 women serving the Shogun.
Then the curtain rises on a fierce battle between the women to gain the favor of the one and only ruler of Japan.
Meanwhile, someone is plotting to plunge the Ooku and the Edo Shogunate into chaos.
