Yeah. Needs cracked. I knew the moment I read the website specs on the game. Hibiki games are now DRM. Hell I think some have a worse version called DMM player?

I wouldn't call this game a route of a xCation game. This game is 100% a nukige, while there were some aspects of the xCation games that were closer to moe/charage. Here everything leads to sex and exists only to lead to sex. The "multiple routes" are just a couple of "bad" endings, don't go in expecting some major variations. Unfortunately no emote during ecchi scenes, and the emote during conversations is honestly a waste of effort considering how insipid the story is.

Quite sad to see hibiki-works complete its transformation into full-fledged nukige after a borderline Natural Vacation, I hope it works out for them but I think this is the last game I'll play from them.

Really? No full emote? I guess that's why is cheaper than a full release?? No? Well that makes thing mildly disappointing. To its defense, Natural Vacation emote in the sex scenes was okay but not the same levels I have seen from other companies with their own engines. I will take good cg over serviciable animation any day. I liked Natural Vacation though. I think it was fine.

I saw the multiple routes from the Walkthrough here. I think I can guess where all three go based on your input. I cannot give a blanket statement like yours of not playing games from X brand ever again. My thoughts are for trial only and I try to give a fighting chance to everything I touch. And I think being a nukige is not a bad thing. Hell, some of my favorite games from all time are nukiges.I will have to play it all to see what I get out of it.

I'm rather puzzled with some of what you said though. Hibiki works are never known for strong storytelling, and "whatever you do will lead to sex" has always been their game. I couldn't finish Natural Vacation. Is the story even worse here?

Wait, you played the demo right? Was it animated in there? Because of the 27 ecchi scenes in there I haven't seen a single animation, but I skipped some of the later sex scenes because they're just too frequent.

I also liked Natural Vacation, and actually found the sex animations pretty well done. I thought it was the best use of the emote engine I had seen so far (not perfect but better than earlier attempts). I wonder what other companies you are comparing it to, because I can only think of Studio Kaguya and some older elf game able to do a better job animating sex scenes.

And I think being a nukige is not a bad thing. Hell, some of my favorite games from all time are nukiges.I will have to play it all to see what I get out of it.

If there ever was a doubt in your mind: of the 44 CGs of the game, about 4 are non-ecchi. I don't mind a nukige either but it's just a completely different thing from the xCation games, and to be honest I preferred them since I still remember them, while I'll probably forget about this game after a week or so.

Not strong story telling, no, but cute and adorable characters, yes, and cliched but heartwarming romance stories too. Think Hinata or Seine from LxC2, Azusa from PxC2, Yuki from NiiLxC, etc... There were always a lot of sex in the later parts but there are also dates, character development, a little bit of drama even... Here, the whole Maya character is completely one dimensional : she exists to serve her brother's sexual urges. If only the game briefly touched on why she became that way, what she really feels, but it is never explored in sufficient depth.

tbh, I wouldn't mind if Hibiki Works kept doing single heroine nukige with Iizuki Tasuku as the artist. He's an amazing artist, and as long as he keeps pumping out amazing designs like the one in this game, then I'm all for it. They just need to bring back the Lovely Call System, as well as the animations from Natural Vacation, and we have ourselves probably the best vanilla nukige company in the business.

Haven't got very far in the game, but I like how things are set up to make the story very focused (on sex, yes). Very refreshing not having to plod through fluff (toneworks should take note of this), though I can see how it might get boring if the story goes on for too long. Though I guess that's exactly why they have Tasuku Iizuki do the artwork.

A very minor nitpick, though... while Momoi Ichigo is an excellent VA, I feel Kazane would have done a better job here given her skill in voicing flirty and less expressive(?) heroines.

They're pretty much known for having really long and in depth charage, rather than focusing more on porn in the way Hibiki Works does. Going into a toneworks VN for the porn pretty much completely misses the purpose of their games.

You misunderstood. I meant to say that Toneworks seem to have forgotten about what makes a good love story: focus on the heroine. Their script has gotten lengthier by years, but that extra length wasn't invested on more private time* with a heroine. Hibiki works seem to understand this, and cut off stuff irrelevant to your relationship with the heroine.

*Private time doesn't have to be sex, mind. Anything which adds to the romance building such as chance meeting and dates qualifies.

Have you set your locale to Japanese? (Control Panel > Region > Administrative > Change system locale > Japanese)

If the above doesn't work, try installing directx and any 32-bit visual c++ redists you're missing.

Hear Hear! Although to be fair, they have lots of ecchi scenes. But since Tone works games are deep with character development and take their time with developing the relations, the sex scenes resonate even more and become a lot more satisfying when you reach them.

Hibiki works are way less character driven and in my opinion more player driven. In Tone works games you see the relationships filtered thorough the main character whereas in Hibiki games you kind of put yourself in the game.Hell, you could say the protagonist is a vehicle for the heroines instead of being its own voice since you have to work out your appearance and hobbies to be liked by the target heroine in Hibiki games.
