[Eroge] A Collection of Mini-Reviews #9 – New Year, Same Games.

A new year brings with it another year of my favourite type of posts – the ever convenient mini-reviews. We begin this year with much of the same – sequels and/or low-price titles.

Boku to Kanojo no Kojin Lesson 2

Official Site / VNDB
My Score: 8/10

Boku to Kanojo no Kojin Lesson 2 is a low to mid priced single heroine title from Azarashi Soft+1. Much like the first game, this focuses on a romance between a student and teacher, with this game following the protagonist and heroine going on nightly walks to try and help improve the protagonist’s insomnia. This has the same setting as the first game and also features a bonus story featuring the two characters from the original game. Therefore, you don’t technically need to play the original to read this but it will enhance your enjoyment.

I will admit I’m a sucker for Azarashi’s pure love games but I really did enjoy this – it was my favourite Azarashi Soft title I played last year. It’s just a good example of how to do a short and fluffy romance title and an overall improvement from the first game. The heroine Umi is super cute, with enough quirks to make her memorable (who would’ve thought she’d be a metal fan), and the story was decent – with the protagonist’s amnesia being an interesting hook.

While it does still suck that there’s no vocal op/ed song, the BGM is generally pretty relaxing which makes the nightly walk sections really peaceful and kinda cozy.

There is still no classic eroge classroom H scene but the game does make better use of the school part of the teacher student romance when compared to the first game. In general there’s an above average amount of H (11 scenes for Umi & 1 bonus scene for Misaki) – they were generally decent, and again fluffy. There were still plenty of non-H CGs so I have zero complaints.

Overall this is quite a simple title but if you like Azarashi Soft’s style of games and/or are interested in the heroine then I would absolutely recommend.

Nagaruboshi -a wish star-

Official Site / VNDB
My Score: 7/10

Nagaruboshi is a short and very cheap doujin title released by Nanacan – the circle of illustrator Nanaka Mai (probably best known for her work with frontwing). The story follows average guy Kanata who one day wishes for a small cute girl to appear before him. And as it happens that evening he meets a silver-haired girl called Mikoto who claims that she’s here to become his girlfriend. And so Kanata’s summer vacation has suddenly got more exciting!

The story in this game is short, fairly simple but pretty effective. It may be a little cheesy or predictable at times but I still enjoyed it (it was very cute). If you buy the game on Steam I would recommend the R-18 patch because I think it ends the game off better, even without factoring in the H scenes.

The main reason to get this game is the heroine Mikoto – she’s utterly adorable and Ogura Yui does a fantastic job of voicing her. Kanata’s otaku older sister Akari is also pretty memorable for providing much of the game’s humour.

As you can probably expect, the artwork is also above the usual doujin standard. Nanaka Mai’s artstyle is inherently cute and works well with this game. There’s a lot of CGs considering the length/price of the game and I really enjoyed the SD CGs in particular.

If you want a cute, summery game to fill in for a couple hours then Nagaruboshi would be a good pick. At less than 1500 yen for the download version it’s a bargain and is very much worth the price. I hope this circle makes more games in the future!

Natsu Uso -Ahead of the Reminiscence-

Official Site / VNDB
My Score: 7.5/10

NatsuUso is the second game in the Uso series, this time focusing on kouhai Aoi who seems to hate protagonist Souichirou after something happened between them in the past. The beginning of the story does continue in a world where Satsuki (heroine from the first game) joins the Cat’s Paw club but doesn’t have the contract with Souichirou so they don’t date so I assume you do probably need to play all the games in order to fully appreciate the story.

Natsu Uso is, in my opinion, a big upgrade over the first game. Partially because the story is better, and partially because Aoi is so gosh darned cute. The combination of tsundere + the ability to see lies leads to some very fun interactions.

The H scenes are still early, with the lead up to the first H scene in particular being hilariously dumb & like something out of a bad nukige. I will say the H scenes in this game made the romantic progression more interesting though as the characters work through their tangled emotions. It didn’t feel quite as chore-like as the first game in the series.

The title still works into the theme of the story, although in a more obvious way this time. Natsu Uso doesn’t have a big twist like Haru Uso but is more of a solid romance story instead, which is my personal preference.

The artwork is still cute, although there are once again too few sfw CGs.

Since I’m still pretty early into this series I can’t say if it’s a must-play or anything yet. From the first two games, Natsu Uso is worth a play if you like kouhai characters. Though I must say if the games keep improving with each entry I am very excited for the last two. That reminds me that I should play Aki Uso soon…

Thanks for reading!
