Crunchyroll providing (somewhat) free manga

not sure

all they've said so far is that Japan, China, France, Germany, and Italy will not be getting access.

Bastards. Guess I'll have to wait those ten extra minutes until someone rips it.

Crunchyroll usually has the "stream/copy" available for viewing after the hour of the media's original showing.

So, has anyone given this is a spin?
How's the catologue and are past chapters available?

And more importantly, does changing your IP via a proxy work? ;)

Poked it just now. Looks like they have a grand total of 12 titles, and of those only the latest couple of chapters (from a random sample). I would assume changing IP via proxy would work.

Hm, that sounds disappointing. Not sure if I want to pay a monthly fee for a paltry selection - time to find out if someone rips them to see what the quality is like. I mean, it can't possibly be worse than MS, but still.

I'm sure someone will rip them and upload them and name themselves HorribleScans, or the sort.

Sounds like a side project for yourself Checkmate :D

But yeah, out of 12 titles, I am only reading 2 at the moment... and already at the latest chapters for now. Need a lot more titles to get myself interested. But I think it will be worth waiting for either "free" sharing of the content :D or for more titles to be added to the library.

You are too hipster for mainstream manga?

I guess most of what I read (especially online) is rather odd choices. Then the problem is that the TLs sometimes forget about them...

I'm too hipster for even anime huehuehuehue.

Too hipster for any popular stuff.

Apart from that, it's interesting to see how crunchyroll pull this one off.

I wonder what kind of deal Crunchy is having to provide to license and sell manga. It would be nice to find and read about it.

Checkmate Lolis are mainstream... are you too... (•_•) ( •_•)>⌐■-■ (⌐■_■) hipster for lolis?

eroge isn't that mainstream, and I'm only into ero huehuehue.

The license are likely similar to their "streaming" license (manga cloud is like a streaming too)

Then they will attempt to make money by selling premium account that let people to read the latest volume, and perhaps, try to make some "offline goods" while they are at that (ex: entire collection for $$$$ plus limited goods)

Hmm... so I've noticed by Crunchyroll requiring a premium membership... I see they are also selling their licensed volumes. Amazoon is cheaper though, through 3rd party vendors and the option to buy manga for the tablet.

Checkmate would be all over Crunchyroll if they started carrying romance and "loli" enthusiast material :)

Same for me, except... kitsunes... not lolis... unless loli kitsunes???

Now, back to topic. Crunchyroll stated on October 30th that they look forward to releasing "all" manga titles as soon as they are released for distrobution. No new content in the near future it seems. I guess negotiations are still being worked on for more titles to be made available.

Why are you all so in Crunchyroll? This is obvius a market move so people will read a few chapters for free but have to pay if they want read more. Beside that there are a lot of websites who provide a free manga with the same quality it be a translated or raw.

I've read too many scanlation releases that barely resemble English to believe that. >_>

Came across this article and thought it related.

Depending on how good it is I may start reading manga
