The buttons returning to "off", even though the animation is still playing, is happening in the original Japanese game, I have no idea why the dev decided to do it like that.
Since the game has Japanese file names you need to extract and play in Japanese(Japan) system locale, or the game will crash.
This wasn't originally planned as a manual translation, but there's so little text in this, that just a DMTL , or SLRMTL, felt really lazy.
