Answered Group Mentions?

Quite often, I see someone mention several people (sometimes dozens) in a post. Are they typing in their names one at a time, or is there an easier way to mention a group of people all at once?

I didn't find anything in the FAQs or Site Support, and didn't see anything obvious when writing this post.

As far as I'm concern there is no easy way around this, its just that the people who do mass mention already copy and pasted the list on word already so they just copy and paste the list whenever they need.

Sadly, there isn't. You need to type either all the usernames you'd like to mention manually or list out the user IDs one by one (one for every [mention] tag). Also, the mentions system is a custom feature, while the FAQ only has default items. We've been considering to update the FAQ for a while―we just haven't.

Couldn't maybe the 'Open Contacts Popup'-menu/window so modify, that it than Mentioning use can? - I mean; where there few extra buttons were, what e.g. 'All mark' -> what later to the editing-post/thread a good place mark; and with a click (or if sometime a button-combo give will) attach would... Well, it's really hard to explain, but I hope that you know, what I mean, or?~>

Notice: In this case would also very nice, if I the Open Contacts Popup-window/menu from other members also open could (e.g.: at Bday-threads), where from there only the list select have.

Pretty much. If/when you do, try to preserve the raw BBcode (something like [mention=12345]) instead of the unencoded (something like ＠name) format. This will minimise the possibility of parsing error when you reuse the list/template, which may cause the codes to break at some point.

Hi there nanashi. Just FYI: the "open contacts popup" is an inherent feature that comes with the forum software (i.e. not a third-party modification or something we tweaked ourselves to enable), and I've seen suggestions by customers to the vBulletin team to improve the feature that sadly went unanswered. It may or may not require tweaking the core infrastructure to change, but I don't know about the technical implications yet at this point. However, I think yours is a good idea. For now, we'll look into the matter and analyse it from the technical standpoint. Thanks for the suggestion.

So just "at" username "semicolon" wouldn't do it.

Looks like a fair bit of work for a large list. My respect for the folks who manage large mention lists just went up even MORE! :)

Not that saving the list in the usual format wouldn't work. It's just a means to minimise the seemingly-already-low chance of error. You don't have to type all the raw BBcode manually; just mention the people you want to mention like usual for the first time around and then edit your post once it's posted. Once it's posted, the forum reads it and converts ＠name into [mention=12345] and you can just copy that.

I'll consider the enquiry addressed. As for your suggestion, nanashi, we'll have to look if/when we'll be able to deliver something like that (if at all). It's something that we can't really estimate yet at this point, so we'll let you know if we manage to do something about it.
