Hentai legality in Canada?

So i was thinking of buying a hentai game (download) from bishop.jp. Now i live in Canada and wanted to know if there are any legal problems. For example are all characters in bishop games over the age of 18. So in short if i want to download these and pay for them with a credit card will i run into any legal problems?

Well, there are two questions here. First: is Bishop's work legal in Canada? Sadly, the answer is "probably not." Canada's laws on obscenity are pretty obscene: http://mypage.uniserve.ca/~lswong/laws.html

They're written to be as general as possible, to the point where anything pornographic can be considered illegal if the Crown so desires. Nukiges would definitely count as obscene - and that's before we get into the child pornography aspect. Almost all of Bishop's games involve high schoolers, so they'd fall afoul of that section of the law too.

(As an aside, notice the hilariously anachronistic inclusion of things like "crime comics" and virility cures. Yes, Batman is illegal under the letter of the law. So is Viagra.)

The second question is: will you run into any legal trouble? Thankfully, the answer is also "probably not" - unless you are engaged in other activities, like the physical import of hentai manga, that might draw the attention of authorities, in which case the games you buy will probably be included in the charges you will unfortunately face. Even physical import isn't all that risky. Typically the fascists over at Canada Customs will simply deny the entry of materials they consider to be obscene. You can write an appeal, but that's generally a fool's errand.
