Several members sent us inquiries about the time it takes to approve new threads in the downloads section. A while back we set up a system where you need 30 posts and be registered for 14 days before bypassing the moderation queue. This system had been set up to stem the flood of low-quality, rule violating threads, but is now nearing the end of its usable life.
We have been discussing for a while how to proceed. After many weeks of heated discussion and proposals ranking from abolishing all requirements to completely closing the downloads section, this is what we've come up with:
Posting in the downloads sections will only be allowed for a special group of people. All the current rules will continue to apply for these people.
Joining the group will be after an application and decided on a case to case basis. To apply you'll need the following:
The questionnaire contains the following questions:
All in all not very different from our current ruleset, just that the control starts a step earlier to ease the load. After your application has been approved, you'll be on a two week probation. During that time your threads will enter the moderation queue, to make sure you're really following the rules. If your threads fail to do so, you'll first receive a warning and then get your posting rights removed.
The same rules will apply to veteran uploaders, to be fair to everyone. This is the only way to avoid ugly threads and useless spammers, to maintain the highest level of quality for our users and visitors. It also forces people to learn about our rules before breaking them and to think before acting, both of which are admirable qualities wherever you go.
All applications should be made in the Staff Application Forum. Due to the personal nature of the questions, only the member creating a thread (and, of course, Supermoderators and Administrators) will be able to view its content.
Please be aware that we won't tolerate the following:
Application are processed in a first come first serve basis, and may take anywhere from one week to three months. Please do not attempt to contact any staff to ask for the status of your application.
