I totally misunderstood :P It'd be the same for other science subjects since I'd still have to study all the way back to high school levels (as I briefly mentioned, I got into studies instead of science, so I pretty much stopped studying phys/chem/bio by the second year of high school). Math would probably not be as bad, and I could likely survive in IT, but the bad part of our system is that it groups every academical subject into either science, social studies, or linguistics. No prize for guessing where math and IT go under. To get into a good uni, I'd still have to study all sciences just to pass the test ;_;

You could still be doing something that interests you and hopefully would enjoy :) Although Bachelor of Science probably wasn't the best undergrad degree to use as an example, sorry. OTL

Thing is, astrophysics isn't a field where you just need the degree (like how in IT you'll likely be trained again and what you learnt in school may be totally irrelevant to the particular needs of your company), you need all the knowledge as well. I can't just choose a random science degree and barely pass it only to then lag behind in astrophysics itself. I don't live in the US (would rather keep it private); it's just that the USD is more global so it's what I tend to use when talking about currencies :P

Would that also put too much at stake? :( I was trying to understand the entry requirements for a few undergrad science degrees from some American universities but unfortunately I only got the GPA part. I'm really sorry to hear that you're going through all that :( Sometimes Plan A fails in the beginning, but that's not to say it can never happen. Sometimes all you need is to take a detour to get where you want, so maybe in the future, after Plan B, you'll be able to make moving to Japan a reality
Short term goals can be anything, like getting some exercise into your day, drinking a glass of water when you wake up, save a bit of money today, studying for at least 3 hours this evening - little things basically. Just being able to tick something off - that you've accomplished something - is such a nice feeling because it really shows that you've gotten stuff done, whether it be big or small, and you're not in a standstill :)

I'd like to say something along the lines of, "trying not to think too much about the student loan and focus sorely on your studies" but it's not that easy, especially when that means you won't be getting money from the state because of it. I did some research to try and better understand your situation but please correct me if I'm wrong regarding any of this. When you mean get paid by the state, are you stalking about the social security welfare over in Sweden? And the student loan is from CNS? Do you think you could be eligible for 'boarding supplement' and 'student allowance'? Or would you be able to ask for help from your parents? Sorry, these questions probably seem rather redundant as I'm sure you've gone over every option possible for yourself already :c
