Error starting Princess Lover

I've downloaded Princess Lover off nyaa and installed it fine but when I start it I get this error:

I don't really know what it means but it's not helpful. I've tried starting it different ways and reinstalling it a few times. I doubt anyone will know how to help with this as it's pretty old but it still had 1 seed on nyaa and I'm able to install it fine. Maybe it's a windows 10 thing. I can play other things fine so I know it's not locale or language settings. I thought I'd ask somewhere but I get the feeling I won't be able to make it work.

Edit: found a thread on fuwanovel where someone had the same issue I think and they put resolved without saying the solution

Also I installed walkure romanze the same way and it works

Last edit: walkure romanze is barely playable and it must just be win10. It can't even full screen. I'll just assume princess lover won't work but I'll keep this up incase anyone sees it one day. Hopefully they rerelease it some day.

Try setting the compatibility to Windows 98.

That's odd.


Try installing the DirectX which is included in the DVD. It may also need DirectPlay:

• Press WinKey + R, type "control" then press Enter.
• Open "Programs and Features".
• Click "Turn Windows features on or off".
• Open "Legacy Components", check "DirectPlay".

Thanks. I'll try that out. That sounds like it's worth a try but I'm not too desperate to play this so if it doesn't work out I don't mind. Anyway thanks for responding :)
