Learning Kanjis with Mahjong (lesson for mahjong as well) [Need kana knowledge] Lesson 2 (kanjis cited: 32)

Well i will try to let it simple and many kanjis as possible..

First i will introduze only Mahjong name

麻雀
(まあじゃん=Mahjong) First kanji is (あさ=Flax) Second Kanji (すずめ=Sparrow)

The kanji is easy to remember if you already know these kanjis, 木、林、森.
It just add a 3 traces (麻). the another traces is all from 木. The signify is very easy to remember too.
Because (if you don't know),
(き)=Tree
(はやし)=Copse
(あさ)=Flax
(もり)=Forest

ATTENTION
is different from

(ほん)=Book Tip:本 is used for ほんとう(true)* as well. Is used many times this one.

Now The kanji Is 2 Kanjis merged.
The merged radicals are and

少=(Signify nothing alone but..) Manly used for
少女(しょうじょ)=Young Girl
(おんあ)=Woman

隹=(Dont need to remember this one its from chinese alphabet, in japanese alphabet its only used "merged"(as radical) in kanjis like for example 雀 or 雉

And to finish
You can write 麻雀 in kataka alphabet as well (マージャン). Much easier lol

We only need to use 2 equipments to play マージャン, the tiles (136 in total), and 2 six-sided dices.
We will have 5 types of titles, ワンズ、ピンズ、ソーズ、風牌(かぜはい) and 三元牌(さんげんぱい).
tiles.jpg

The names in Katakana is to simplify the names for the tiles. Well don't need to remember for really but the kanjis is important to differ.

ワンズ will use numbers(seriously? i can't see any number!)。 Well in japan numbers are written in kanji as well(unfortunately)...

一(いち)=One

二(に)=Two

三(さん)=Three

四(よん)=Four

(ご)=Five

六(ろく)=Six

七(しち)=Seven

八(はち)=Eight

九(きゅう)=Nine

十(じゅう)=Ten

The kanji bellow the numbers on the tiles ワンズ is (まん)=10,000
hmm just for curiosity the kanjis for 100 and 1.000 are:
百(ひゃく)=Hundred
千(せん)=Thousand
________________________________________________________________________
Examples to howーtoーuse:
十七(じゅうしち or じゅうなな )=17

八十四(はちじゅうよん)=84

二百十(にひゃくじゅう)=210

千八百(せんはっぴゃく)=1,800

And there goes...
__________________________________________________________
Now for 風牌(かぜはい)=Wind Tile

(かぜ)=Wind
(はい/ぱい)=Tile
(ひがし)=East
(みなみ)=South
西(にし)=West
(きた)=North
四風牌(よんかぜはい)=Four Winds Tiles

(四風牌 Is metioned as スーフォンパイ in マージャン Matches)

________________________________________________________________________
And now the last kanjis for the 三元牌(さんげんぱい)=The three units tiles(Some people call as "dragon tiles"):

(もとor げん)=もと signify Origin. But in マージャン you read as げん, Unit of currency in China.

(はっする)=Ignite
(ちゅう)=Medium

中 kanji is usually used as なか(Inside) in galge games.... lol i guess you can understand why.

Kanjis cited so far: 32

no, no.

林 is..
Copse=A thicket of small trees or bushes.
Is like a small forest... or so. lol

Well in japanese is copse, but i wonder in chinese...

Oh, by the way i will try to add about it. Recently was watching "-Saki- Side A", and made me remember this thread. lol

A brief resume about points:
Is about the difficult of your winning hand... i will show an exemple from the anime (first season).

Caution! SPOILER FROM EPISODE 19!

Epic.jpg

Well little complex but. Just showing to you understand this match, and showing as example too the point system(so-so).

After i will explain better lol

edit:

Oh forgot to say... RISHAN KAIHO IS HARD AS HELL... EVEN MORE WITH 3 KANS AT SAME TIME DX

actually, 林「はやし」 also means woods or forest in Japanese.
never seen it being used to mean corpse
edit: misread copse as corpse...fail on my part haha ^^;; thanks @below

少「しょう」 means few or little
if used with another kanji or itself, it's usually read as しょう
in other cases it can be read as すく (少ない)、すこ(少し) depending on the word

it can also be used with itself. 少々「少少」 means just a little. For example, when ordering food, they might tell you 少々お待ちください, or "please wait a moment". it can also be used as a synonym to 少し。

少 = little
女 = woman
少女 = little woman, that is, a girl. makes sense.

typos

should be read as おんな

十七
should be read as either じゅうしち or じゅうなな (both readings are common)
千八百ー>せんはっぴゃく
note the change. it's not read as ひゃく、but っぴゃく

started learning to play Mahjong - it's quite fun, even though i have horrible luck with it lol.

RISHAN KAIHO is not hard, it's pretty much impossible rofl unless you are like Saki and have godly luck

Copse != corpse. I misread that too at first and it caught me off-guard. :)

Copse is like a small bunch of trees, like a mini-forest.

Ugh, totally forgot this thread x_X i'll probably just finish making the multiplier section... Too lazy though because translating a game...

I laughed at corpse xD

Hmmm. but doesn't 少 need a compound ideograph formation with kanji/hiragana to make a meaning?
少し=is little imo.

about "おんな"... >< blame IME!!damn annoying to write nn-na to appear おんな sometimes i forgot 1 n x_X

"せんはっぴゃく" ugh this one i really didnt know.

"unless you are Saki" Just download -Saki- Portable and be happy lel (This game is WAY cheated, sometimes annoying because the enemies are impossible some times...)

A bizarre example, choose 4 Sakis in the same game. The game will draw at the second~fourth round because they'll close the game making KAN spam lol

yea. 少し does mean little, or few
for ~百
the reading can change depending on the number in front
ex:
三百「さんびゃく」 (nasal)
四百「よんひゃく」 (unchanged)
八百「はっぴゃく」 (strong)

i just play mahjong on my ipad lol (it's called 麻雀天極牌 if you're wondering)

Holy Crap, 1 Hour... and is just part 1;

And oh, would be nice a resume with the rules and point system, if you have.

Multiplier i have already an e-book just for that (is pretty hard to remember all S multipliers variations).

Point system is a pain in the neck. If you have would be a great help! ><''

These are my notes from watching the 4 videos. I still recommend watching to get the most out of the notes.

Basic layout & flow of the game
pg1_zps92cabbc0.jpg

note: discard pile should be 3 rows, not 2 (typo)
a meld is either a sequence (ex. tiles 1,2,3 of same suit) or a set (ex. tiles 3, 3, 3,3 of same suit) of 3(=triplet) or 4(=quad) tiles. all yakus require 4 melds and a pair except for "seven pairs" and "13 orphans"

more yaku hands

Special sequences, riichii, tempai, furiten
