1. 「おれのなつやすみ２」をインストールする。
2. 下の「修正プログラムをダウンロード」から修正プログラムをダウンロードする。
3. 修正プログラムを実行する。実行すると、自動的に修正が行われます。

※かならず おれのなつやすみDVD-BOX の おれのなつやすみ２ をインストールしてから修正を行ってください。

※修正プログラムは、プログラムメニューのショートカットを参照します。ショートカット名を変更しないようお願いいたします。

I get this error message when trying to run any of the games. Any tips?

yes this was it, i forgot to report back here. i found out in the meantime that these games seem to just work ootb and without any hassle on linux

I tried getting to run on Linux but the Japanese font for the window title is all messed up as well as the icons. I haven't been able to get WINE set up correctly. I don't know what I'm doing in Linux. I'm sort of bumbling around. Also have had sound issues.

You need japanese locale just in windows, or else you will only get jumbled letters. I dont know which distro you are using and im also no expert in that (you may or may not need a jp language pack first depending on what is being offered ootb), but if you want to use Wine then for sure Lutris would be the way, where you can also set the jp locale. There are guides out there how to use, but im not sure if im allowed to provide an outside link here.

The other way is proton with steam which i used
