Never made it to Camp Darby with the family. With five kids in a small four-door Fiat, the drive would have been too far. My father was stationed in Aviano Air Base southern Italy. My family did most of their grocery shopping at the Naval base in Naples. We visited Rome, Pompeii (too much) and Herculaneum. Visited and saw some of the aqueducts, went to Cassino a war cemetery...anything historical.
When my father retired from the Air Force, and I started attending public schools the change in type of schooling was different for me. My favorite teachers were DoD teachers, where there's more personal and better teaching methods. Yes, explaining to friends about living overseas was definitely a challenge. For them the concept of living overseas and moving around was unusual. Mostly since they and their friends all grew up together and went to the schools.
Well, you have your family's military background, so I'm sure you'll do well in getting to teach at a DoD school.
I'm sorry to hear about your Kinder Eggs. :( Maybe there was a custom worker who went home with your Kinder Eggs. (j/k) I can't imagine once confiscated what they do with them...sell them back (?).
