lol powers always confuse me, because I feel like I'm cheating if I do anything unnatural (like how I'm not sure about what I just sent madd, but left an alter-plan), and in cases like this where most of my power is supposed to be super knowledge of pyrotechnics, I can't actually do anything I don't have some idea of how to do in real life (so I do this by stretching the effects of what works in real life just a bit, because someone who really knew what they were doing would know minor improvements to make it work better :P).
I feel the same as you, so I break it down into something that I can understand. (usually scientifically)
For pyrotechnicsL my mind would see it as the acceleration of molecules to the point that they combust.
So I see a pyrotechnics as some manipulates matter by acceleration it. (then I would go from there to making my powers)
And since we know Newton's law of motion "everything has an equal and opposite reaction" the negatives would fall into place.
Well I disagree, because it would be a doubled edged sword.Hmm maybe next time I will be Lord of Corn!
That would be so ridiculously OP it would be crazy. There are only two ways I can think of that makes your caveat work: either the power is extraordinarily limited (as in, it doesn't work), or it becomes even more OP. XD
I went more for "knowledge on how to make things combust in various ways". So there will be times where I'll just make up things to fill in the gaps, I suppose.
Lord of corn xD Hmm... i wonder how thatll work out...~
Well I disagree, because it would be a doubled edged sword.
If not done correctly it would catch you in the cross hairs.
Not to mention it wouldn't be the fastest of attacks so there is a small amount of ramp up. (Amazing long range though)
If someone closed in on you, you would be screwed.
So it's far from OP :P
Please see red text aboveI guess the way you envision the mechanics from your implications is much different than the way I do. I could, for instance, surround myself with a particle storm (speed up the particles, then keep them moving with constant acceleration in a circle). The caveat I was more expecting with the "equal and opposite reaction" was: where is this added energy coming from? The added enery would be coming from your surroundings. The question is how to stop it after created. And keep it from expending... and or suffocating you (good example is a firestorm at pulls in oxygen)
First case: myself, whereas I do not produce enough energy for this to be effective. I can maybe cause some minor radiation damage to people.Radiation burn takes about 3 to 7 days to show. Not to mention your attacks would have to be from afar so you won't be affected
Second (OP) case: I take it from elsewhere. Then not only can I surround myself with a particle storm, I can make the area immediately outside of the storm be an area of torpor/devoid of energy. I can also cause massive radiation damage to people. That would injure you as well since you aren't immune to cancer
Please see red text above
Ah, so the real caveat you are thinking of is "lack of control". Especially in areas of direction, and amount. If that were the case, then it would be a rather problematic power indeed. I can't even make slowly accelerating laser beams, then. :P
I've really enjoyed this conversation ^.^
Also I think double edge sword powers are really fun ^.^
So I would pick something like it
Yeah they are really interesting indeed. But now it is also difficult to think of any practical use at all for this power that doesn't kill me, unless I can start things at a very far range (and preferably be scuba diving in heavy water at the time).
