Does somebody know what the update patch are for?

New for the 1.01 patch:

- Modified game to use a single CPU by default. This may significantly improve stability.

It contains the following fixes:

- Opening movies now play in every episode after the first.
- Fixed bug where sound disappears until you delete config.dat.
- Fixed bug where skipping scenes skips choices.
- Patched bug where skipping traps you on a blank screen. If this bug would trigger, it will now return you to the script it left instead of sending you nowhere.
- Fixed various scripting and textual issues, including missing subtitles and rogue Japanese text.

The version number will not change. You’ll know the patch was applied when you get the opening at the beginning of an episode. The first episode has no opening.

Try to change the display. Right click on desktop, Screen resolution, Display and try to restart the game.
Update your graphic drivers ... then try to restart the game.
Do you have the newest version of DirectX? If yes, reinstall it.

If this doesn't help, you can try to launch the game in 640x480 screen resolution (right click on game, Properties, Compatibility).

Download DirectX 11 and install it, that should replace all the files. Maybe you have an older version.

Hold the Windows button + R, type in dxdiag and open it. The DirectX version should be listed at the bottom of the information.

Try the other suggestions I made. To update your graphic driver go to the site of nVidia (or which graphic card you use).

If it's not DirectX, I think it only can be your graphic drivers.

If the possibility exists, try to install the game on another PC.

Most popular codec packs are CCCP and K-Lite Codec Pack. I'm using CCCP and it work's fine for me.

Everything selected, whith exception of "Alternative H.264 Decoders" and "S/PDIF". "FFDShow Audio Settings" is 2/0/0 - stereo.
Next page is only "Show Tray Icon", "Enable MKV" and "Enable OGG/OGM" selected ... never changed anything there.

I don't think that the codecs are the reason behind this error. I think it's something with your graphic drivers, screen resolution or DirectX.

Only the few I listed before. You reinstalled DirectX, therefore that shouldn't be the whole reason behind this. If you installed the newest graphic drivers, that can't be the problem too. You can try to install it on another PC, if it doesn't work on that one too, than I suggest to download the game again.

I have not another PC, I have just my laptop. Do you think School days is not working on my Laptop?

There are some compatibility problems with laptops, but this shouldn't be the problem for this error message.

Specs for the game:

Windows 7 32/64 bit, Vista, or XP
Dual-Core 2.0GHz
1GB RAM
12GB free space
DirectX 9.0, 64MB VRAM, 1024X768 resolution
