The only technique I use that both of you don't really do is draw without guidelines.

I draw as I go. The 'hand' idea for my Chopstick drawing was to fill the extra space. I didn't really plan on it.

Many chopstick hairstyles are the same. A bun at the back with chopsticks crossing each other at one point.
