SUMMARY

Anna, a young girl living in Sapporo, is having trouble with her classmates. Due to anxiety attacks, a doctor suggests that Anna move somewhere more relaxing. After moving to the countryside to her family, separated from her mother, she spends her time walking around the area and sketching. She finds herself drawn to a seemingly abandoned house across the water, which can only be walked to during low tide. It is there that she meets Marnie.

Although she finds Marnie to be the first kid her age that she gets along with, there is something mysterious about her—Marnie even tells Anna to keep her a secret from the town. Anna has trouble remembering things, and even blacks out. How are these things related to Marnie? Just who is this strange girl?

I'm 45 and cried like a hell at the end of this anime movie. Not sure if I'm just a emotional or if it had to do with me losing my mother when i was 15 to a very violent death. Wont say more about it. But either way who cares if I cried. I sure dont. I'm a man and if a movie brings me to tears I'm not afraid to admit it.

Anyway this was an excellent anime movie. I give it this anime movie 4 out of 4 stars. I read the dubbed version will be out soon. Supposedly in theaters now. Id recommend this anime to anyone. Subbed or dubbed. I read the dubbed reviews and it is supposed to be excellent in English dub also.

Don't want to ruin the plot but it a mixture of sadness, happiness, real life tragedy and also some happy fantasy magic with one heck of a twist you wont see coming.

Thanks for the comment. I think this was his last movie.

Also for those that didn't know this movie was completely hand drawn. It was probably touched up with computers but the entire movie was hand drawn and still the art work of the movie is very stunning. The artist is very skilled.

I rate this movie right up with all the greatest Disney classics. Its a movie you will never forget. In the U.S. at least it is and was only shown in certain theaters. Mainly theaters that show very highly rated foreign movies.

Had they shown the movie in the U.S. at all the major movie theater chains subbed and dubbed versions it would have been considered a block buster and easily grossed near or at the top of the charts like some of the greatest animated movies of all time.

Anyone that hasn't watched it I highly suggest the 1080p version because of the quality of the hand drawn art. Ive seen it twice. by myself then with my ex and will watch it again once the 1080p dubbed version comes out on video. The English voice cast are all high end actors.
