Hmmm I'm fine with either of them depends on the subs it self...
But I hate it if they change the honorifics like -chan = little and -sama - master *wtf =_=
Or change the name...
Official sub weakness is they very seldom to know the puns or making efforts on explaining things I guess...
- and dub should go to hell (what's the point to dubbed the anime to other language and makes it really bad) :bloodthirsty:

I never paid any attention to find out what is fan or official. I'll take whatever subs that encode it to a workable format on my computer. Often times, HorribleSubs and Deadfish work perfectly fine.

I have to disagree somewhat. Most dubs do indeed fail at creating a convincing impression of a character, but other times, it's more believable than Japanese IMO. Examples? Black Lagoon, Ghost in the Shell, Cowboy Bebop, Planetes.

I don't like dubs. All those years i always watched RAW so maybe i'm too used to Jap tongue. Of course subs are a plus.

I find fansubs are normally better (which is normally why they are made in the first place, these days), but it entirely depends on the group, and then on the persons actually working on it within the group. I'm not super good at telling all the groups apart, but I know that UTW normally does a quality job (especially their blu ray releases: they know what they're doing), and groups like gg, underwater, chihiro, and the like are normally pretty good as well.

Horrible subs (official cruchyroll rips) and commie (almost the same thing) are sometimes okay, but quite often so bad I'll turn them off and watch it raw. Typesetting is also often a huge issue with official subs.

Fansubs tend to be better because they are trying to be better.

Yep, official subs were really really bad back then...
now it is quite good
I think they could be even better
I would really buy more anime DVDs and Blu-Rays that way
They must start to create proper subs and make them appealing to look at
so that the viewer doesnt get eye cancer
still remember those ugly yellow pixel subs?
quality fan subs ftw!!!
btw any other recommendations on quality subs except the ones already mentioned?

What I like now is that some Fansub groups are taking the subs of official channels and putting them through one more round of checking and also adding in what they feel is lacking/removing what is unnecessary. Typesetting and karaoke are, of course, two of some of the issues that official subs have yet to address.

The fansub groups I usually download from are FFFansubs, Unlimited Translation Works, Vivid, Underwater subs, Commie subs, GG, Anime-Koi and EveTaku. Mostly because they work on the new anime though, and not because they do an excellent job in translation (not saying that they don't)

Hi Ryzen. If possible, can you update this please? The amount of game-breaking bugs are hideous. Many thanks.
