[ILLUSION] Honey♥Select (ハニーセレクト) - Discussion & FAQ

Use a Japanese proxy.

Just keep in mind that a lot of said proxies won't work with Illusion's services. Picking one from this list with Anonymity Level of "Elite" will have a better chance to work.

Ah, okay thanks. Might ty it out, seems daunting though... :p

I've been a little bit too busy to participate in discussions, but I'm still lurking around and doing some odd moderation jobs.

Since the release of VR Kanojo, Illusion seems to have lifted the ban on foreign IP addresses, so you should be able to visit their website. If you have any issue checking the new updates, let me know and I'll start mirroring their content again.

I also noticed that there's been a major update to the SBX2 uncensor from Stampar and Belgar17, and that plasticmind should release a compatible 4K texture pack this upcoming weekend. As soon as it's available, I'll update the MF and EMF patches with the new content.

The new expansion pack will be released in three weeks, and what intrigues me the most so far is that "Battle Arena" thing.

First, because I'm a sucker for strategy games and turn-based JRPGs. Those genres blend really nicely with erotic content and spawned some of the best eroge out there like the Rance and Sengoku Hime series or the titles from Eushully. Even if it's only a side-project that doesn't include sex scenes, I'm really thrilled to see Illusion working on this type of game.
My only hope is that it won't be a "PVP only" thing : since it's a card-based game and comes as a purchase bonus, I fear that we'll need to connect to their servers to play it. Even if I have an Illusion account and can set a VPN, I would prefer not having to wait for another player to be available to fight against nor having to download "battle cards" from them.

Second, because it has some really nifty features. If you checked the last updates, you should have noticed that it includes some kind of "battle poser" that allows to create your own attacks with custom animations and effects. This reminds me of the "pose designer" from Yuusha, which you could create some totally ridiculous sequences with. Fond memories.
But the most interesting bit is that this "battle poser" sports a sequencer with a fucking timeline. For now, it seems that it will only be used for particles effects synchronisation and camera movements, but it's definitely a step in the good direction.

With a bit of luck this will be extended in the future to support animation chaining and blending and integrated into their main Studio apps, allowing us to create animated sequences instead of still pictures. I don't expect them to update the upcoming "Studio NEO" application to include an animation sequencer but I'm sure this will eventually be ported into their posers (ie. in the next iteration).
And I honestly can't wait : I particularly dislike the rigid, single-loop, animated-in-place nature of the studio scenes and being able to breathe some life, movement and variation into them would definitely reconcile me with the poser apps.

Lastly, I find this "Battle Arena" thing really intriguing for the simple reason that it simply doesn't fit the theme of the game at all.

Honey Select was basically a virtual brothel hosting girls specialised into the "girlfriend experience" type of trade. You would enter it to meet your dream girl and screw her till the end of time.
And now, those girls are turning into battling heroines in shiny armours ? How the hell does this make any sense ? Does Sitri finally showed her true colours and revealed herself as the demon of lust she is ? Do you have to train your hoes and pimp them into warriors to defeat the beast that keeps you locked in her den of pleasure ?

I don't know if there's a story behind this total change of direction, but there's one thing I know : Illusion simply loves to recycle the same assets. So, are all those new armours and weapons coming from previous games like SBPR or Yuusha ? Did Illusion decide to flip assets coming from the Unity Store to make some quick money ? Did they intend to release a full-fledged heroic-fantasy RPG, scrapped the project and used the leftovers for this expack ?

Honestly, the art direction this expansion took, with the included minigame and all the related "female fighters" customisation options is puzzling me. It's blatantly out-of-place in the "Honey Select metaverse" and they could have taken a million other direction that would have better fitted the base game theme.

Hello, may i ask for system requirements to play Honey Select on VR mode ? is it the same with vr system requirements,or it require more powerful hardware ?
Thanks

Make your own cut-in, and move visuals...

Looks like there will be an entire pack of pre-made fighting poses coming with it too...

Well, my take on the Battle Arena is that there is already quite an arsenal coming from SBPR items and Illusion just want to take it a step further...

My main question is...whether all that cool visual creation be usable only in Battle Arena (it is said, in their blog, that it is to be used in the Battle Arena) or it will be there in the Studio as well...that battle animation pack included.

Thanks for reporting, Toyohara ! It's exactly what I wanted to know.

Since I don't have to mirror its content, I didn't check their blog over the last month and totally missed the fact that they included a truckload of additional information about the new "Battle Arena" game in the last couple updates. Habitually, it's mostly small talk about the weather and current sales so I didn't expect they'll cover such a topic on their blog...

Well, my take on the Battle Arena is that there is already quite an arsenal coming from SBPR items and Illusion just want to take it a step further...

I noticed it after writing my last post, and also answered one of my own questions : a good part of the assets are indeed coming from previous games... and Illusion even mentioned that they're porting the clothing from Battle Raper II in the latest update about the additional customisation options (I really should take the time to actually read what they announce before posting). It seems there's a bit of everything in there : I spotted the angel wings from Ore ga Shujinkou and some outfits from Musumakeup! amongst other things.

It's interesting : Illusion is building a nice "fight-themed" assets library here, with plenty of new items and a lot of refreshed ones, all with high-quality models and textures. It really makes me wonder if they created them all simply for Honey Select Party or if they were meant for another project (scrapped or upcoming).

My main question is...whether all that cool visual creation be usable only in Battle Arena (it is said, in their blog, that it is to be used in the Battle Arena) or it will be there in the Studio as well...that battle animation pack included.

I'm pretty sure that the combat animations will be available in the Studio, but I guess that the mini-sequencer to trigger camera movements, particles and other effects is only going to be included in the Battle Arena card creator. If they planned on adding that feature to the Studio, they would have announced and showcased it already.

From a technical point-of-view, it makes sense : in the "attack creator", you simply select a single animation then use the timeline to synchronise the effects with the animation. If they had to include a sequencer in the Studio, it would require much more work to get everything in sync since you can have different animations with variable length running on multiple characters.

First, you would basically need a "per-loop sequencer" to trigger the particle effects in sync with each individual animation. Almost trivial since it's exactly what happens in the "attack creator" (except that the animation is looped). This is a feature that can almost easily be added in an update to the Studio.
But the big thing is that you would eventually need a main timeline with a "general sequencer" to switch, translate and rotate cameras as well as apply background effects. And this is the rabbit hole : once you get in there, there's no turning back and you'll eventually lose your sanity before reaching its end. Because you'll want to add keyframes for light translation/rotation since you already have them for the camera. You'll want triggers for the animations since you already have them for the effects. Then you'll want to keyframe those animations. In the end, you'll want to create a full-fledged animation toolset.

I doubt that they'll go down this hole this time. For now, we should already be happy that they managed to implement a simple timeline in one of their apps. And hope that for the next iteration of their poser, they'll dig a little bit further.

well it fit's the SBPR theme with the battles/fighting.

This game was basically SBPR 2 without the horrible, horrible open world bs that made SBPR unplayable. They just took what people liked about sbpr (the sex) and made a game of it.

The open world in SBPR was complete crap with terrible optimization. I think a bunch of us were very thankful that they did not repeat that type of gameplay although it could have been done right but were probably more focused on sexual interactions.

There is that of course too, the thing they did leave out though from SBPR to HS. How you could actually interact more with the girl during sex scenes with the cursor, like pull, poke, rub, lotion, spread legs, etc. I think that aspect of the sexual interactions was nice, made you feel more involved. Could have been a pretty cool RPG based sex gameplay brought to HS since they did have nice ideas from previous games.

Well, better than a simple mouse wheel in my opinion but HS is still nice. It will be interesting to see this new expansion on how it is executed with the existing game and how will it tie in with any type of story lore. Also, the improvements to the studio aspect.

Windows 7 SP1 or newer.

What are your system specs on your pc at this very moment? These are spec listed online for minimum/recommended.

GPU:
You would most definitely want at the minimum of GTX 970 or R9 290 or better. I would definitely recommend going with NVidia's new 10 series GPU's; GTX 1060, 1070, 1080 or Titan X. The reason why I would recommend a newer series of GPU Pascal from NVidia is they are more cost effective to their productivity efficiency to the older Maxwell cards. The GTX 970, 980, 980ti and Titan X from the Maxwell Architecture can still get the job done but again, it is still pretty costly for something that is not as good as the newer Pascal cards with decent cost.
(New)GTX 970 $340 vs (New)GTX 1070 $370 or even a GTX 1060 which is less but no 4k

PSU: Power Supply Unit
(Note): When upgrading you have to make sure you have good power distribution so nothing gets burnt out or dies. So you might have to upgrade your power supply. Usually the least amount of wattage would be 500w but a solid wattage is 650w plus. Again this all depends on your hardware specs.

CPU:
Doesn't necessarily need to be of an i5 4590 or greater. You could go a bit older in generation. I would go somewhere from Haswell (4th gen), Broadwell (5th gen), Skylake (6th gen). Just go with at least an i5 or i7, more cores equals better workload distribution. No need for K versions unless you plan overclocking but it is not needed.

RAM:
8GB of DDR3 would be the minimum. If you can, I would go for 16GB of DDR3 for cost purposes or even 12GB but, if you can, go with the newer DDR4 sticks. You just have to make sure your board can accept the newer sticks.

PORTS:
Well, if you have a nice card and depending on your VR device. Display port or HDMI will suffice. Display port is usually a better choice but HDMI is ok unless you are also going 4k, then it's display port all the way.

OS:
Newer the OS the better, less issues to run into when using applications. Win10 is getting better and better, more compatibility xpacks plus I think a lot of people benefited from the free upgrades last year. I am sure if you are still using an older OS it wouldn't be too hard to find someone uploaded a backed up copy of the free Win10 OS from last year. Win7 is still nice, FUCK Win8 or 8.1

USB Ports:
Well pretty much all the new motherboards that are decent to really good have plenty of 3.0 ports and even 3.1. You can still find some older boards from a couple years back that support 3.0 with several, I have seen some z97 boards that could work that are not too expensive but some might support a higher gen i5/i7 past 5th or DDR4 RAM.

Hopefully this was helpful. You could always check out https://pcpartpicker.com/list/ and http://gpuboss.com/ and http://cpuboss.com/

Hi Kensaiakamei.
Thank you very much for the very detailed answer , i really appreciate it
my PC is very old now and i intend to buy new (when i have enough money :D) and your post helps me to know what i should buy :D
Again thank you for your enthusiasm and have a nice weekend :)

after watching the video on their site, it looks like the battle system is part of the new studio. where you can create you own movie with action animation triggers on a timeline (ie. shooting, sword play, magic, etc..) and then position those action triggers like an object so they'll shoot/slice where you place it.

I'm not totally sure it's studio (but it looks like it) but that'll be a huge leap to be able to do that.

I dont know if this has been asked before but how in the world Illusion games get character presets out of png files. I have always been curious.

The PNG format has a clever structure that allows you to encapsulate data into the file. It's habitually used to store metadatas like the Exif ones, but you can virtually put anything you want in there.

Read the section about the technical details on file "chunks" in the Wikipedia article about Portable Network Graphics if you want to know more.

I wished it was the Studio. Having a sequencer in there is my wet dream (I wrote about it on the previous page of this thread).

Unfortunately, it's a feature that is only available in the "Battle Arena" card maker. Look at the user interface : it's clearly not the same as the UI from the "Studio NEO" application.

Just out of curiosity whenever a new update + update to hte patch come do i just overwrite the old patch or i have to reisntall the game?

Also i noticed some characters require "bone edits" Any idea what does that mean?

Edit: Can you somehow filter the illusion booru upload site for character cards by score?

I can't get the skintex mod menu to show up for characters (w/ the J key) and when I change the color of male characters' skin, their faces don't change.

In addition, whenever I try to select none for items like stockings, bangs, etc. the last selections I made keep showing up when I actually enter scenes. In other words, I'll choose "none" for stockings and then she'll be wearing the pair I had chosen before removing them entirely when I enter a scene.

Also, I have a LOT of "Assembly-CSharp.Dll" files in my Managed folder.

I'm really enjoying the character creation in this game for non H purposes, and wanted to create some non H scenes in the studio.

One of those was a school scene, but I can't figure out how to get the sitting in the seats looking all natural like.

Is there an easy way to do that, or do I have to fiddle with IK or whatever?

It is indeed unfortunate that HS include crap for sitting poses...if you happen to have HaremMate/PlayClub/SBPR and the mod that allow the use of animations from them, you might be able to find something that works.

...failing that, just remember you can make the IK nodes correspond to whatever pose the character is in now before turning IK on. You should be able to figure the rest out after that. Also look into the H animations, you might just find something usable in there. You can turn animation speed all the way down to make characters static if you take that route.

I didn't think of that. I guess maybe a cowgirl-variant could be a good base, pretty sure there is that one sitting one. But do I need a male to start the animation? And if so, how do I delete them once I found the proper position?

You don't need a male (or vice versa) to start the animation.

Once you find the position you can use, turn the animation speed to 0 to stop the movement, match IK nodes with animation (first button in the IK tab, the one without checkbox), turn on IK (first checkbox), and toggle IK nodes (second checkbox), and then it's up to you to move those limbs into their place.

Ah, okay cool. Forgive me for being a studio noob, but how do I delete characters that I place in the studio? And is there a way to save custom poses?

Like I create a sitting pose, would I have to do that for every character?

There's a "delete" button at the left of the character tab which deletes the currently selected character. On a somewhat related note, you can replace the selected character with another by using the right button on the character load tab if you simply need to swap a character for another at the same spot.

There's save/load system in the same IK tab. Type in a name and hit save to save the pose of the character being selected, and select a pose from the list and load to apply that pose to the selected character. Be warned though, the IK pose may not work correctly without the correct "base" animation being selected for that character, and the IK pose are no longer interchangeable between genders, which means you cannot use female IK settings on males and vice versa.
