Mmm, well it's just a thought. Your hair length right now is what I would consider the maximum length with the backside coming up to the shoulders before calling it long. Trimming isn't necessarily to make your hair short, it's for styling. At most you can lose about a centimetre in length of hair if asked for. Thinning enables you to keep some of your hair at the length you want while being able to vary the lengths in between. It also makes it easier on the head since it partitions the scalp, leaves more room, so its easier to wash, and also being lighter on the head too =]
But you can have your hair however you like, these are just random thoughts that I believed would have been beneficial to you. If you ever wanted to give it a try, then that's great~ ^^
