League of Legends

Very rare to even see a Talon nowadays, they're trying to get Fizz into competitive play...

Aih...if only this was about Heroes of Newerth instead. Seems all you ppl I'd wanna play with play something else. It had to be LOL.lol...~

Someone told me all champions from HoN was Overpowered and that stuff. I probably can't even handle another MOBA at the moment. It was already hard enough to remember over 100 champion abilities and possible skills that they can use and their range. This doesn't include mana costs, damage and ratios that come with it.

You sounds like a serious player ^^ Anyways, if all the heroes where OP then they are not OP after all xD Right ?

Well I'm semi-serious casual player. I don't spend all my time there but I do spend some time research new champions and their trends to adapt to situations. As for HoN, if all champions are OP then there's always a better champion to use in different situations and overall situations.

Ah, okey, like that, I think thats just good fun then if so, so that picking a hero actually has a tactical implication and that their not all "average" in everything.

ive always wanted to play but i havent played a MOBA since dota was a mod in WC3....

and seeing as LoL is free, im wondering whether its worth it

HoN is also free btw. But you can still buy a lot of stuff ingame. I thought you could use money in LoL also, but I only tried it once a long time ago.

Honestly speaking from experience... if you don't care about ranked and simply want to enjoy a game in Normal Draft where you only will play like 5 - 10 main characters. Then it's the same as any other game, you'll have fun if that's how you enjoy your games.

On the other hand, if you planning to be serious about ranked and want to be good at the game. This game can be heartbreaking difficult to be good in. If you were good at Dota 1/2 or any other MOBA games, then you will have an easier time. In this game, there's already over 100 champions to learn about. To be good in this game you have have like 3 to 4 things that even professionals and theory-crafters agree on:
 • Good Mechanics
 • Game Knowledge
 • Calm and Rational Decision Making
 • Ability to Continually Improve

If you have all that down and one hour to spare per match with a positive attitude. You'll get far in this game. Personally I play League of Legends for fun since I can not invest more than 1 to 2 hours per day in this game. Assuming that I have the time to play these types of games.

Matches can go as long for 20 minutes (assuming one side lost too badly to recover) to around 1 hour (assuming both teams refuse to give up). That's why I mentioned it can take a hour per match to play this game on the normal 5 vs 5 map for both Normal and Ranked games.

This game is extremely difficult at the start but everything is difficult at the start. So consider the following factors before investing time in this game:
 • If you can spare about 1 hour per match
 • Willing to deal with the good, bad and ugly
 • Learn champions abilities and commit them in your mind (if you want to win)
 • Game Knowledge
 • Improving Mechanics (If you want to win)

I repeat, this is the same for all games but it's more so for time intensive games like these.

well, i'll have a lot of spare time in a few weeks after my exams finish so i guess it will be worth having a go.

in saying that, it has been about 8/9 years since ibe played a moba, so the possibility of myself being completely useless is highly possible.

sigh, i guess all i can do it try!

thanks!

On the positive side of things, you can play with AI so you don't have to worry about losing to human players. So if you're fine with that, you can have fun in those modes too. I seen families that play as a group in these modes. Heck, I have seen a family play on Maple Story, Audition and other online games too.

Yeah well im on the Oceania servers!

Name is Genious :3 add me if you ever want to play ^.^ im pretty bad though :L

OtakuGods: Honestly speaking, looking at your rune pages only and ignoring everything else. I feel you're pretty new so that was kind of expected. I don't imagine people just starting anything to be good at it so it's a miracle if anyone who starts grasps the concept and be average at it.

Oh... I guess I may as well, if anyone wants to just play around outside of ranked games. Just leave your IGN and server details and I'll probably make a new group folder so I know where I added you from. I'll send you a PM though so you know it's not a random adding you.

Currently only playing in NA and Oceania Servers.

yea, id end up being on the oceania servers too

btw, are there any youtube tuts worth watching, id rather at least get upto speed before venturing back into an unknown territory

Give me a moment to edit a new post with basics of League of Legends. How familiar are you to MOBA games anyway? Completely new?

One more thing, there's a in-game tutorial for players to go through. Its worth trying that out first and come back with questions. If you intend to play on League of Legends however on the Oceania Server, post back your IGN and I'll add you. I'll send a PM on my IGN so you know my IGN I'm using to help you out in getting you up to speed.

Videos I recommend if you want to watch before getting in is the following:

Please note they are guides. Once you're used to some of these basics, I'll help you out with the other basics. Unfortunately I'm not Gold/Platinum/Diamond/Challenger player. I'm a guy with some moderate game knowledge and only play this game for fun in my spare time.

It may look daunting and hard. But everything is hard at the start.

Here's another few guides that is worth checking:

arigato gozaimasu!

like i said, its been abotu 8/9 years so my skills/knowledge are nil at this point. but im willign to give it ago again.

Check the above post. It has more details now.

Additional notes:
I'm not sure how you learn so those videos are good as a reference. They most likely are not up-to-date but its somewhere you can start with. The current Meta in Oceania and NA follows that style. I know other region has their own styles as well but I'm going to try and keep it simple. Watch it or have a go at it. Don't feel too disappointed if you lose a lot at the start since the Oceania Server is filled with the following:
 • 50% Experienced Players (Using their real or freshly made account at all levels)
 • 30% Players who been in the game for a while
 • 20% Others (New Players, Casuals, etc.)
