So which is it? From my limited knowledge, a cook is someone who has basic knowledge of cooking and makes things following a recipe.
A chef however is someone who is advanced. Usually they have a license and creates their own recipes and add flair to any existing recipes. Not to mention they usually also graduate from culinary school and if their legendary like Gordon Ramsey they are awarded Michelin Stars that also adds rep points as being incredibly good...

I'm guessing you work for a restaurant?
