I wouldn't say it's that hard. I can't say the same about fansubbing, but as for scanlating at least there's manga with furigana out there. Manga with furigana are bound to use rather simple language so translating them is much easier compared to translating anime and visual novels. It's also good to train your translating skills.
Hmm to be honest I haven't played it myself since I don't have a PS3 either... :s I think Tessu has played it. I grew fond of her cause I used to translate like four chapters of the manga and found her cute.
