What kind of bonuses? If I ever find myself suddenly trapped in an SAO style game, I'll need to know my options.

Well, like SAO suggest, grouping up and sharing information is better than solo and find your way. Plus working as a group it is a lot easier as there are huge limitations to what a single player can do. SAO explained it quite well in terms of Player/Game interaction.

『When you are in the guild you can also decide who will get what drops before going into dungeon and so if you go the whole group its the same as 100% chance everyone gets something... Cause if you go with random people there is always chance they will always roll higher than you and you will get nothing...』

Wouldn't leveling up take longer as a group? I guess it depends on how they give experience in the game. Also that lately I'm used to action games that if you are careful and patient enough, really low level characters (such as level 1, even) can take on end game bosses.

Information and resources would be huge though. Unless you got a bunch from playing the Beta I guess.

If it was a death-trap like SAO though, then the big thing would be to get a reasonably sized group of people you trust, and then keep plowing weak mobs (scaling with your level) until you are way over-leveled, bulldoze the boss and resume with weak mobs on the next floor. If dying becomes serious, make yourself invincible!

EDIT: Madd that is also cool if games let you build that in. That is also why if you are building a group you might as well get all kinds of players for balance and equip distribution.

『Well, that is kinda how most of the players were doing things in SAO..? With the group you can usually defeat enemy like 3 or more times easier so even if they cut exp in half it will still be faster lvling up like that...』

『And usually guilds have privileges such as guild house that gives you more rest, buffs and other stuff like that...』

They still royally sucked at it in SAO. They kept having like half the group killed in a boss fight. Obviously they should have either gotten the average level up a bit higher, gotten better gear, or just practiced their skills (assuming that dodging is a good and valid option 99% of the time). In even the hardest games it is almost always possible to take down bosses like the wrath of an angry god.

Oh, I thought it would probably spit xp by however many are in the group. But if that means you just go through slaughtering everything that is still probably faster.

I'd probably die right away if I got into a game like SAO. I would probably try to solo the first boss super early, get it down to like 5hp, and be just about to hit him with my bare fist for the last strike when he would sit on me. Come to think of it, they showed throwing weapons like arrows, but did they even have archers? Long range can totally change the game for action games. :evillaugh:

『Pyre... Did you ever play any MMO till the highest lvl content? When you go against the boss you don't know a thing about with not even tank but dd class, there is a very high chance of you dying if your skill is on normal lvl... Its not even about equips or lvl. Its about how good you play.』

『Nope, the game was all about close combat skills. There was a throwing skills which allowed throwing daggers and nails, but that was a secondary skill mostly used against flying enemies...』

thought id drop by, seems like an interesting convo, dont let me disturb

cool cool, just watching a few episodes of fooly cooly before bed, its been interesting to say the least...

zad38; FLCL is one of my favourites.

MadSova; ah I see. I've never played an MMO myself, and I virtually never play with other people (which is why if I did play something like that I would probably want to solo for at least a while). I thought that in SAO, other than skills they said there was no limit at one point? Because if you have the stats for it, and you are good at evasion, I think with a decent team you should be able to thrash most bosses. As for what the boss is like, you could send scouts who would only battle a little and then warp out (though they would be in for a nasty surprise later on...).

One thing I wonder is how much you control your build in MMOs (or in SAO particular, for this conversation). I wonder how customized you could set your levels. That's one thing I like a lot about Dark Souls. You (can) level up often, but each level doesn't do much by itself, as it slowly raises your ability in many small categories, like dexterity, endurance, stranth, etc (I think there are 8 of them? But Resistance is worthless). I realize that one big thing about MMO open world games is to work at skills, but I wonder how the actual stats levels work.

tl;dr: I like stats and breaking the game, when your life depends on it, is fun.

@sam :hi:

Have a good dinner~

Yeah overleveling so that you can kick a boss around like a confused pigeon. Go in with your character min-maxed, and then apply all available buffs and watch that sucker go down.

That's why the game normally gets harder. I agree though, too easy games are a bore. I like my challenge. You may notice this if you played one of the old games I've made. I actually made the games to be fun for me, the creator, to play. So if I find it difficult and I designed the controls and built the levels... many people would give up after 5 levels, when I had designed say 60 increasing in difficulty.

Hmm... increasing difficulty in what ways? =w= Random small platforms which take forever to get over? xD

i feel like we never talk sammy. and there's something that's been bothering me. why don't you have 100% activity! :objection:
