To be utterly honest I haven't had a look at the code myself since Checkmate took care of all of it (I did the graphics stuff), but I can understand the limit being set to 1200px wide. The header image wouldn't look good under that width, and since the layout is fluid (meaning it expands following the screen's width), it wouldn't be good to have anything below that. We estimate most monitors nowadays to be 1280px wide at least. Probably there are still those who use 1024x768 CRT monitors, but we can't prioritise the absolute minority.『Not sure if I'm right but by inspecting element I found in code that it sets page's minimal width to 1200px so since most people use page in minimal size I suggest setting size of your background in profile to that. Larger works fine as well (as I just checked myself) but with 1200 it will completely fit in the window I think...』
Not freely; that is, there are limits as to what and how much you can edit. If you go to your profile and click the "Customize My Profile" button, you'll see that some of the input fields are in CSS format. For example, the ones that require images e.g. url(images/gradients/generic_button.png). Some others, however, are merely colour palettes either in hex format (begins with a #) or RGB with a format like rgb(###, ###, ###).Hmm can we edit our profile using CSS? I havent tweak my profile, and I'm somehow interested in tweaking it using CSS
