The way you say it is a little bit different, so that probably at least helps? I'm sure there are plenty of names like that, just like we have dumb parents who keep naming their kids random nouns here. :P

i suppose. but mina and minna are very similar. and it's a way of talking to multiple people. unlike names like hope, or faith, mina is the kind of name that everyone will respond to. imagine you're out with friends, and the one named mina wanders away. it'd be kind of weird. imagine going somewhere and just yelling out "everyone! everyone where are you!!"

Actually both minna and mina can mean everyone. But I'm pretty sure in a name, you say the pitch a little differently (Japanese has a subtle pitch system, which I'm guessing would help for things like that).
