As for battery manners, If you have some wire (get from computer), you could get few sparks rather easily with a laptop battery. Trying to hook it up to most lights would probably either have no effect, or short it out in 0.2 seconds. If they have anything like switches or breadboards in the computer lap, you might be able to write a small timed function on the laptop which could be very helpful for distractions/traps.

The batteries are also a little heavy and clumsy though, and overall I don't think they would be a very useful find. :/

(if you REALLY knew your stuff, you could try using laptop batteries with a DVD burner to get a nice hot laser to help with fires)

Not I. That is why it would require someone who REALLY knows what they are up too. I'm pretty sure you could do it without solder, but it would be a lot harder and less stable. :P
