That depends on seed.
I remember 7 years ago I was downloading Neon Genesis Evangelion anime for about 1-2 months. But that was localized version.
New torrents give your max download speed, the problem is with the old ones when seeds die.
But if filesharing sites will die, then its a matter of time before there will be an increase of seeders.
If not then we still have Irc file boots, or some new system as I don't believe in kazaa/edk and other stuff. Ftp is to costly to be considered, unless the sites will get major donation, like lolipower site which have DDL from their servers.

Torrents for new releases and ed2k for older anime. But finding eroge on torrent and ed2k is harder. Maybe if the major uploaders switched to torrent or ed2k it'll be better.

the P2P sharing and stuff I've gotten good speed even though there was only one seed

and some of it stalled even though there was over a thousand seeds

seeds offers no anonymity. it dies fast. and worse, when you are dling, you are upling as well, making you responsible for the content. and worst, all sources of seeds are from the already-dead giant host.

there are some alternative solutions, but they are for users with high speed connection and understand japanese.
