I got corocoro's permission to post this no need need to concern yourselves if I am a troll/spambot. We're looking to collect data on players of pornographic/hentai/eroge video game players. Eroge aren't porn for the same reason TV/book series like Game of Thrones aren't. The sex is an extra, but it's neither the main focus, nor the sole selling point.

Eroge is not a genre. Itself has different category. It's like western game where you have multiple genre such as FPS, RPG, RTS, and etc. may be you should have done much more research on eroge itself before. It has a lengthy history and tradition.

The art is not cheap either, it is treasured. My friend who actually visited an auction featured artist's work who draw for famous eroge company. He paid several thousands dollars (++70000$) for an original drawing of an eroge character.

But,you know,there is always a large number of the nukige in the eroge market and eroge can hardly satisfy players without porn.I can't refute this fact,so in my opinion the eroge that is on the top of pyramid is art,just like literature is art while popular novel is not a artistic novel.

I don't mean that eroge lack artistry.In fact,I can't stand someone regards eroge as hgame.eroge is different from it.I can only believe eroge is a potential art,which need a good writer to reveal the art in it.

"Eroge" is a Japanese-English acronym for "erotic game". It does indicate the inclusion of sexually explicit content. I'm not going to be pedantic over whether it's "porn" or not, or whether the story is more important than the sex, but I'm pretty sure we can agree on what "erotic" means. As a genre, it does not denote gameplay. Such is usually referred to as "ADV" ("adventure") by the Japanese, or more commonly "visual novels" by English speakers.

It's not akin to genres like FPS and RTS. It's more similar to genres such as fantasy and horror. (It should be noted that the term "RPG" is somewhat diluted: its use as a genre can denote both story and gameplay just fine.) Take the following examples:

• The Call of Duty series is FPS by genre of gameplay and military by genre of story/background/make of it what you will.
• The Elder Scrolls series is RPG (action, adventure, sandbox, what have you) by genre of gameplay and fantasy by genre of story.
  .
• Your everyday dating simulation where you talk to girls and get laid―what most would think of when they see words like "eroge" and "visual novel"―is visual novel/ADV by genre of gameplay and eroge (limiting it to this scope, without taking into consideration subgenres of eroge such as nukige or more common genres such as slice of life) by genre of story.
• A full-fledged sex simulation game wherein you can control your character to perform certain actions in sexual intercourse, such as games made by Illusion, are simulation by genre of gameplay and eroge by genre of story.

To be honest, I don't see many people other than myself being pedantic over this, but I thought I'd offer how I think the differ in my view if you're going to use some of those words in an academic context. (I'll leave the "more art than porn" part for others to fuss over. I consider it purely subjective.)

I don't think so.Maybe all-ages eroge had a good market 4 years ago,but now...you can see minori's SPPL.It is a loser.A all-ages eroge without a nice plot just make player sleepy.Nowadays the plot of eroge lack creativity,so I think eroge is a potential art.

In the other hand,a few people paly eroge,and only a eroge player loves play it,because other palyers can't find the appeal of eroge.A number of people are not interested in text adventure game,except porn.

Edit: Well, how already Ignis (and the other Admins) so nicely pointed out have: Is eroge also a kind art - Because the artists of the charas/BG did as well much effort puted in their project how at other artists of the world. - And eroge can as well in the porn core lead or also again not: Because in the term is so-or-so the word Erotic included: What from harmless erotic events to sexual action pointing can. - Well, like between Ecchi and Hentai - what on the erotic level depends.
