I could have sworn there was a thread just like this... oh well.
I personally prefer tea for my everyday lifestyle. The benefits of tea is subjective as I feel a calmness and warmth that is not captured by drinking coffee or any related beverage like lattes, cappuccinos, mochas, etc.
Green tea with some lemon is my standard. I like the health properties as well as the added acidic taste of lemon.
For aroma, I would pick Jasmine. When paired with a heavy Asian meal, it actually does not complement one another. Instead, I prefer to drink it by itself just for the fragrance or with a light dessert or snack that is not overly sweet.
My preferred teas, but for special or certain occasions, would be orange tea and grapefruit tea. I tend to favor sourness and this is no different. For those who have a hard time eating the actual grapefruit, purchasing grapefruit juices or grapefruit tea is a good alternative. Grapefruit tea still has that unique bitter taste, but not as strong as the actual fruit. Orange tea feels like your senses opening up and the citric taste level is up to you to adjust.
Although the brewing process for both tea and coffee can be meticulous: the water, tea leaves, coffee beans, and other arrangements, they are exceptional and worth enjoying in their own ways.
I consider coffee as a replacement for soda in a way. Not for the caffeinated properties, but as a 'go-to' beverage. Unlike tea, which I find as my comfort, coffee is more like a 'pick-me up', 'going out into town', 'being lazy/bored in the house', 'work-related'... everyday, on the hour.
If there was a particular kind I prefer, then hot black coffee would be it. Strong, bitter, and simple.
In the end, they are are both exquisite and perhaps even necessary for our daily routine or certain occasions. We should be grateful such drinks exist and that we can enjoy them as long as we live.
