Soo this topic is kinda broad and vague, but it centers around being social in real life or online. I kinda want to compare whether or not people might be stretching themselves too thin online (blogs, SNs, chats, etc.). And see if they could either be more organized or need to make a change. (ex: spending too much time online effects irl relationships).

To kinda give an idea of what I'm looking for, I'd call socializing online having to do with expressing yourself through talking, videos, photos, posts, statuses, etc.
Socializing in real life would be any interaction with other people without using the internet. (could consider texts/calls part of irl socialization, since you'd know the person irl right? :o )

Some things to think/talk about:

online:
1 What websites do you use to socialize? (facebook, google+, blogs, youtube, twitter, etc.)
2 Which do you use the most frequently, and how many hours daily/on average?
3 What do you use to put everything in one place?
4 On a scale from 1-10, rate how important each website is to you personally in real life.

in real life:
1 How many locations do you go to and often socialize? (ex: school, friend's house, church, etc)
2 How many times do you socialize daily? (or how long total if you can guess :p )
3 How many people do you see very often?
4 Thinking about the people important to you, do you often prefer to socialize irl or online?

-----

sooo we can extend this topic to a variety of things, feel free to ask about something :o
you could also add to the questions~

Online
1: To socialize I only use Facebook and MSN (or should I say Skype, since Skype "ate up" MSN). I have an account on blogger, google+, youtube etc. too, but since my friends don't have them, I can't socialize with them in this way.
2. Facebook/MSN ... every time my laptop is turned on and I have a connection to the internet. On holidays this are about 15h a day, during the week about 6-8h. But I have to say that I'm afk half of the time, since the laptop is just turned on for downloads etc. :D
3. This would be my mobile phone, since I can access everything with it and I have it with me all the time.
4. Good question. I don't want to rate it, since on the one hand it's distraction for me and on the other hand it can be very useful for school (at least for me).

Real Life
1. Monday-Friday ... school, for at least 6h each day. Friday and Saturday evening I go out with my friends, but only for 2-4h. Church? Haha, last time I visited a church was a few years ago :D
2. Depends on the person. One of my friends is at home only on weekends, which means, during the week we chat via Facebook or I call him on the phone. And then there are my friends from school ... I meet them every day at school. And yeah, you can say that the school is my 2nd home, since I'm longer at school than at home during the week, just because I'm learning with my friends there.
3. See? Very often? That would be my family, hahaha, and my classmates. And no, I don't want to see each one them -_- Some of my classmates are *add negative characteristic here*.
4. Like 2, depends on the person. If it's family and relatives, I prefer real life, if it's a good friend, it doesn't really matter, as long as we see us once a week or so.

In the end it's hard to say if I prefer online or real life. The positive aspect about the internet is, that you can reach your friend anytime and nearly everywhere. You can answer at any time, since you don't need to say everything more than once (via message). Without a doubt, it's more personal if you meet your friends in real life to chat with them, but that's difficult if everyone lives somewhere else :)

Online:
1 What websites do you use to socialize? (facebook, google+, blogs, youtube, twitter, etc.)

FB i guess. I do read blogs, but hardly comment anything. And hardly i could call "socializing" to random
comments in stupid youtube videos. And i dont understand what twitter is about.
The only ... seudo-interaction i get daily is posting here.

2 Which do you use the most frequently, and how many hours daily/on average?

Mmm... i spend like 3-4 hours in the net each day. Sometimes 6 hours when i searching for something
to download. I dont like bitorrent so i direct download everything and sometimes that becomes a chore. Way faster though
to get into my pc though.
I think that i dont do more than 1 hour or less in FC or forums each day. I just check them when i too bored.

3 What do you use to put everything in one place?

Dunno what you mean, but i keep all my fav websites neatly organized in my bookmarks.

4 On a scale from 1-10, rate how important each website is to you personally in real life.

FC: 7 i think. Otherwise i would spend the entire year just talking to my work collegues.
AS: Same i think, but i could switch forums at any time. I still dont make any friends here.

IRL Real Life:
1 How many locations do you go to and often socialize? (ex: school, friend's house, church, etc)

Im starting college in a new career today. I have high hopes.
I visit one my friends quite often, like 2 times a week at least. And recently a friend moved next house.

2 How many times do you socialize daily? (or how long total if you can guess :p )

Zero or one.

3 How many people do you see very often?

Many if you count my work collegues. Otherwise... the only 2 friends who live in this city.

4 Thinking about the people important to you, do you often prefer to socialize irl or online?

Mmm, i dont think that the net conveys everything i need to express, so i prefer to do
stuff IRL when it comes to that.
Then again getting to know people online and then meeting IRL is great. I still dont get a GF that way, but it
would be nice.

One of the only people on this site that brings interesting thread topics... sometimes.
Good job.

you could also add to the questions~

This is rather difficult topic to talk about in short. I will ponder on the matter and bring some fulfilling answers.

But in short, I believe you should balance your social activities between all matters. Be it real and online. As it will eventually build a strong bond and link. Whether you like it or not.

Online:
1. I really don't use any websites to socialise. I have a Twitter, but I barely use it, and most of my followers are people I don't even know. I use YouTube, but only to watch videos. I post on some forums (like this one) but I don't know anyone on them.
2. I guess I'm mostly on forums, for 10+ hours a day, mostly lurking.
3. I just keep everything on different tabs. Sometimes accessing it on my phone.
4. 7 or 8 I guess. It's the only thing that keeps me distracted for most of the day.

In real life:
1. Just my work, really. Sometimes I go to places with friends if they invite me but generally I go out on my own.
2. If talking to friends at work counts, then once a day, more or less, excepting days off.
3. I see my co-workers almost every day.
4. I prefer to not socialise at all, but if I had to choose, I'd pick real life.

Hmm online or off both have their advantages and disadvantages depending on how the person uses them~ People who are really social irl tend to feel that online connections arent satisfactory but people who arent social irl tend to find more satisfaction in talking online~ One of the advantages of being online is anonymity which allows some people to reveal more private things without much trouble irl though others might think that its more risky... Friendships build quicker offline although it is easier to create new friendships online, so after making friends online, it would probably be beneficial to actually meet if possible~ Blahs read too many studies x.x

online:
1 What websites do you use to socialize? (facebook, google+, blogs, youtube, twitter, etc.)
I use skype and fb which i connect to aim so i suppose aim as well~ Does AS count? Then i suppose i use this the most sorta...
2 Which do you use the most frequently, and how many hours daily/on average?
I only pop into fb for minutes at a time but usually switch off to aim if i get into any conversations~ For skype... depends but i suppose i can only really hold a conversation for an hour at most... AS is just random posts and seeing if any topics interest me~
3 What do you use to put everything in one place?
Tabs tabs and more tabs? Or connect the chat stuff?
4 On a scale from 1-10, rate how important each website is to you personally in real life.
FB keeps me in touch with friends which i would otherwise not see anytime soon... Aim is sort of extra but there is a friend that i only have on there... Skype... also have friends which only appear on here... or only appear often anyway... AS is well... yeah i dont have most of the people here anywhere else... :/

in real life:
1 How many locations do you go to and often socialize? (ex: school, friend's house, church, etc)
Hmm... church, school, home, relatives places... and i dont usually talk that much though its situational~
2 How many times do you socialize daily? (or how long total if you can guess :p )
Daily? With people i know irl? If you count fb then maybe a couple times a week? If just any friends then daily or almost daily random little chats~
3 How many people do you see very often?
I see tons of people everywhere but whether i actually know them is quite a different matter :goodtea: But during vacations i spend all day at home unless people drag me out of my "cave."
4 Thinking about the people important to you, do you often prefer to socialize irl or online?
Hmm i would like irl but online is enough for now... since irl is difficult...

Ahh yes i forgot to say that other odd part... when people first start using internet their rl relationships tend to suffer a bit but after a while they tend to learn how to balance offline and online relationships ;p Also that im and certain things tend to help maintain relationships~

Either way to me its all the same Anxiety and Xenophobic especially in these kind of forums, but its different unlike in other private enthusiast forums that i join,i post and talk quite a lot in a vastly decent amount because compared to free forums, private forums always have their members locked up in chains language is always in check, they are guaranteed to behave well on a professional level, makes me more comfortable and open to socialize there, the environment is always calm and peaceful.however in free forums like these bullets may come flying at any direction, like what happened to me in that cursed forum that got its hentai contents shut down by DMCA,Profanity dramafest insults trolling and ill treatment, due to those circumstances i will never be the same ever again in these kind forums, its very hard to socialize as i am not one that likes to take beating,it annoys me tremendously up to the burning point.
it already happened once i will ensure it will never happen again, the pain dragged me on even here,i completely close my heart, nowdays i always watch every step i take in these kind of forums always cautious, never let my guard down even for 1 second, only talk in certain areas of this forum, because when i'm here its always anxiety and xenophobia,i was broken once i will never allow myself to be broken again, the pollution of freedom will never allow me to socialize properly in an open environment, now thats the worst and the best at the same time.

So my conclusion is it depends on the environment,if its a controlled area that makes it very easy for me to move around socialize and talk well,if its a free area no way never ever.

The same goes for me in real life as well,i avoid dark areas, always stay away from stupidity and insanity,i always stay in areas where i feel safe comfort and cozy.

Btw i'm not implying that anime-sharing is a bad filthy forum,i love this forum for its awesome contents,as for the community i see almost everyone are nice, very helpful quite friendly, people talk well in every section, its nice to see people respect the forum rules, guidelines and take things seriously,i'm very happy and glad to see the Admins and members care about others feelings and rights, respect others well they don't fool around with people too much.

Nonetheless i am still in anxiety because of the past,it already happened once i don't want it to happen ever again, someday i hope i will fully recover and try to be more open and active in ASF.

so these are my best and worst online

Best socialize

Controlled and well maintained environments with Absolute Strict Laws that must be followed at all costs without fail

1.My Supremely beloved private home forum airliners.net i am always there 24/7 admiring airplane topics and discussion, admiring people/members passion and love of planes mainly my favorite Airbus A380.

2.Other private enthusiast and passion forums too lazy to name them all

Worst socialize

Freedom environments, too much freedom that's where chaos happens, rubbish stupidity and foolishness occurs

1.I DON'T WANT TO NAME THESE CURSED PLACES AS I HATE PLACES CONTAINING OFFENSES RUBBISH AND NONSENSE
