* I want to add that alot of online storages, even paid for ones, will delete your stuff after so many days if it's not downloaded.
(ul.to and bitcasa for example)

(since ppl aren't actually reading the main idea.. I'm just opening it to generally related things~)

I'm not exactly thinking about file sharing, just keeping things backed up. I somehow managed to find this:
bitcasa.com

They're saying that you have infinite storage for free. I'm like.. how in the world are they able to offer that?
I looked through their TOS some, but I'm still not sure how it's free :f
Even if I do keep things on there, I'm not certain whether or not something privately held would cause an account to be held. Untill I can get another EHD, I want to put some simple things somewhere.

any suggestions?

For storing I have no idea. For sharing, Mediafire all the way!
agreed but the frustrating part is that the admins are too proactive in finding illegal stuffs like games....its damn frustrating when i finally found the game i was looking for and only to know that the folder was removed for copyright infrigmentatiion T_______T

you guys can certainly expect mediafire to either be shut down or change their policy in the future~
There's also the 50G limit, plus the fact that links are taken down fast, or entire accounts.
While it's great for downloaders, it's not everything what uploaders need~ uploaders need a good storage plan, which some are infinite like ul.to. Personally, I really don't like the DL limits from them, but you can upload 1G files, plus they're taken down less often. FTP is a very useful tool to upload, which only a few hosting sites offer for free, some only do that for premium.
Some places like rapidgator often drop a connection with me, sooo x_x
deposit files has their DL limit, which isn't as bad as ul.to's. Still, the storage is very limited unless you get enough DL's from people to get premium.
There's a couple other places that seem interesting, but I'm not completely sure about them yet. Never really thought about them much~

I will suggest Mediafire, though they have their limit. Careful with filenaming though, or it will get deleted (copyright and stuff)

I will suggest Mediafire

This mediafire company is beyond all gay. They don't even let you use password achieve or upload encrypted files. They also corrupt multiple part of one files, corrupt large file, all intentionally, and oftenly nuked the entire account should one or two bogus DMCA hit your account.

Nobody should ever use them.

sooo since some ppl don't read (And to avoid making more topics x_x) I'm going to ask for some FTP enabled alternatives~
There's a few good ones I know of so far: Ul.to, deposit files, and bitshare.
a while back i discovered http://www.putlocker.com/ but i'm not sure how well it'll work, maybe I'll use it as a mirror and see how it goes~
rapidgator doesn't like me for some reason.. I couldn't make an account at first, and when i eventually did, it wouldn't let me log in still x_x it also drops downloads sooo wtv~

I know about the annoying limitations for ul.to, but I (and other ppl) use it for the infinite storage and ftp~ With the amount of data I'll end up uploading, mediafire cannot support everything for long. I'm interested in Filecloud.io, but you can't use ftp unless you pay for it x_x

mediafire is too quick deleting files and banning people, not a good choice for me
i think filefactory already good file storage, since they are not easily deleting files, and you can easily find it's premium accounts
filerio is good file storage for me, you can download 500MB files as a free user, but you are limited to download 2 files simultaneously
1fichier is decent, you can download up to 900MB files as a free user, but if no one download the file for 60 days, the file will be removed

what's really strange is that all of these cloud services have a "strict policy" in their terms of use against copyright stuff. I wonder why some are not as active in removing infringed stuff :/

http://filerio.in gives me 3G to upload, and 20G daily traffic. (not too bad?? xD well... kinda is :P)

Depositfiles bans accounts and uses a hash-based block list - not good.

I came across this place~
http://filetrip.net/

lol but the interface seems confusing? and it's like it's made for hosting everything.. since it has tabs for alot of consol games XD
I might look into it more later on~

a while back i discovered http://www.putlocker.com/ but i'm not sure how well it'll work, maybe I'll use it as a mirror and see how it goes~
Don't use Putlocker! Thought I would use it as an alternative to MF, but I think they delete files faster than any other filehost or they have some problems with the server. Uploaded nearly 20 files with 200 MB each one ... on the next day, nearly half of them didn't exist anymore. Uploaded the files again and had the same problem again ... shortly said, after one week only one file still existed.
Maybe they have a better service for premium users regarding uploads, but as a free user you can forget Putlocker :)

can someone tell me about these places if you've had some experience with them?
I'm wondering about the places that say they'll upload to several different file hosts for you x_x
Does anyone know the file size limit of free downloads for rapidgator? (I think it was 400mb or under)
There's also some way to upload things onto google. They were files of about 300mb and gave me 300kbs.

ummm is there something to look out for when looking at different file hosts? (bad things that is)

I know these are alot to look at, but you don't have to review all of them~

http://extabit.com/

http://filepost.com/

http://crocko.com/

RyuShare.com

http://www.sendspace.com/

(some of these load slow)

http://freakshare.com/

http://www.netload.in/

http://uptobox.com/

http://bayfiles.com/?

http://filesmonster.com/

http://real-debrid.com/ (sends files to multiple hosts)

Used it only for downloads as a free user so far, and to be true, I think I'll never use it again. The download speed is just terrible with 30-180 kb/s.

Used it the first time a few days ago. I reach over 1,0 mb/s download as a free user and the upload speed isn't that bad too, but the files are only stored for 30 days after the last download if you are a free (registered) user.

Like extabit ... somehow I think they work together or something like that.

Download as a free user is around 300-600 kb/s for me. Never uploaded on freakshare.

Download as a free user is around 100-300 kb/s for me and yeah, the upload was like a torture for me when I uploaded months ago. The bad thing for the uploads is that the files are only stored for 30 days after the last download if you upload as a free (registered) user.

I never used FTP uploads or something like that, therefore I can't help you here. I think Sendspace is definitely the fastest site regarding downloads for free user in the list (at least for me) :)

with some of that in mind, and some of my experience as well, I might try seeing what these are like and try using them as mirrors.

my main uploading sites for now:
ul.to
deposit files
rapidgator (I usually get around 150kbs. it's not bad for small files)

may keep trying:
RyuShare.com (this gives like 200-300kbs download, but you have a file size limit of under 400mb)
bitshare
filecloud.io (no free ftp tho x_x)

new to try:
http://crocko.com/ (very minimal service, deletes files after 60 days of no DL activity)
http://www.sendspace.com/ (deletes in 30 days, 300mb upload limit, minimal speed)

actually.. those two don't sound very promising x_x
--

it would be helpful to use the first three more often, since alot of things i find tend to be on those file hosts.
my Internet tends to drop with large file sizes (lossless)
And there's a few sources that only use one or two types of hosts. (deposit files, 115.com, etc.)

I won't know what offers better things until I just start uploading or hear from others~ and I certainly know that keeping everything on ul.to won't be a good thing, since I can expect the account to be closed or wtv at some point (maybe?)

Since the filehosts have their Paypal cut off, they have to cut cost badly, namely reduce the number of uploaders with large amount of files. Imagine someone storing 5TB of files while only generate $30 a month for premium. That wouldn't pay off the hard drive. There used to be many people paying for premium which offset these users but not anymore. Also the earning is greatly reduced which becomes unattractive to anyone but hardcore uploaders.

Also, the more files you upload, the more likely you get DMCA, which in turn causes account ban and loss of earning. If there isn’t many files available for download, people wouldn’t buy premium. As a result, the price of premium had to go up too.

I believe the filehosts’ business plans are failing, that not even the to-be-reborn megaupload is gonna change it. Not to mention megaupload doesn’t pay uploaders. Sites only do it to get AD revenue, but publishers are also getting stricter which means link sites are also losing ground.

Have over 60TB of content available but simply got no filehosts to use, and torrent put tremendous strain on the servers with that much files.

That is why I am pursuing something different from filehosts, going back to the old days of FTP / topsites plus encryption and full reverse proxying. VPN are still good to go in Paypal’s book, and I am heading that way with a rather unique all-in-one solution that tick all the boxes, which is already under internal trial and should be ready start of December.

The question would be, how to market such a niche system.
