Translating a VN into German - problems with letters Ä, Ö, Ü

I thought to translate a VN into German, since I'm a native speaker. I thought it wouldn't be that hard for me to do the translation, and to be true, it isn't that hard. For reasons of difficulty, I only thought to translate a VN which is already in English.

Ok, now I translated a few lines (just changed the english text with german text in the scripts) and it worked.
But as some of you may know, in German we use letters like Ä, Ö, Ü ... and there's the problem. Everytime I write a text with such letter in the scripts, the letter changes back to its "simple" letter (for example, "Ä" => "A", "Ö => "O") after saving and now I have the letter in the game too.

Thought I could bypass this problem by changing the localization to German, write the scripts, changing back to Japanese and play. However, that doesn't work too. Now it doesn't show "Ä" or "A", it shows me some japanese letter.

My 2nd thought was to start the game in German localization too, but this didn't work.


My question now, is it possible to bring in these letters without any specialized knowledge? :) I mean, the only thing I did so far was to change the english words with german ones and picture editing :)

It's also possible for me to write the long variant of these letters ("Ä" => "AE", "Ö" => "OE" etc.), but man, I think there would be many understanding mistakes :D

Change the font to one that contains the correct letters.

Thx, that helped for the text in the game, but do you know if I can change it on the menu above too? I mean "Uber dieses Produkt", which should actually mean "Über dieses Produkt".

Probably the same issue with the font just being stored in a different place. No idea where, though. :P

And are you sure you want to go with present tense? I don't think they still hang people in Japan. :D

Hm, then I have to search a little bit. Maybe I'll find it sometime. And if not it isn't that big of a problem, the most important thing is to translate the text.

And haha, you are right, but I think you are one out of a few people who would notice this "mistake" :) The english translation also says "Murderers are hanged there.".
