Oh no. I'm particularly bothered about that little note there at the bottom. Is there that large a difference between being smart and being clever

Clever has two meanings. One of them is the same as smart and used almost in everyday life because it's easier to say and flows well in a sentence. I'd say it's associated with everyday problems. For example, thinking up of something on the spot, able to find an alternate solution to a problem, puzzle solving. Clever works here, as does smart. It just depends on the way you hear it and see if it flows.

The other meaning isn't very bright. Sly, shrewd, cunning. This term is often used when person is able to outsmart someone or something.
One example would be in a hospital where the nurse called the patient for a check up, assumes he is sleeping, pulls up the sheets and finds a body pillow in place of the person. (Which you see a lot in anime).
A baby who's a prodigy and has a very fast learning curve. You wouldn't say he/she's clever but, rather, smart instead.

"Iggy" is definitely the nickname by which I'm most often called, though attaching an honorific thereto is just the habit of some silly people. ┐(￣ー￣)┌

Yeah. The phrase is Chinese. Unless you meant the translation for the meaning because I don't think such a proverb would exist in English. I've pretty much been following this proverb since the start of the year, but I haven't exactly been following it until recently.
