If you haven't already seen this, I would recommend the following because it's essentially my favourite:
Aoi Bungaku - Historical, Psychological, Seinen (2009)
The series is an adaption of modern Japanese literature. There are six different stories and themes, the soundtrack is brilliant as I feel they set the allure when the viewers might feel a disconnect with the character's and emotions.
On top of it the voice actors for me did a brilliant job of portraying some of the demented personalities.
The series can be twisted, however not much gore (just more perspective story boards that make the use of gore non relevant). Aside from the cherry blossoms and spider's thread episodes - some blood for viewer discretion. The production, art and animation is non-comparable to what you would find in new releases of anime these days (too much CGI).
My favorite of the entire series was No longer human. Although it was not to my taste initially, by the end of the first segment and after watching the entire anime as a series, I came to the sense that it was the most mature and tragic of the stories.
The scene where the tram almost runs the guy over was the best scene, But I'll let you be the judge.
