Li Shengshun (Alias) or Hei code named BK201 was the guy in the white mask from DTB Kahlo~ :)
Lelouch was a good one, but how could you forget "L" or "N" from Death Note! Those two kept Light on his toes, the only people worthy of defeating him~ I guess you could say Mello as well but meh.

Edogawa Conan has to be the all time smartest anime character though from the anime Case Closed.
Izaya "Kanra" Orihara from Durarara!! was another really smart character though he technically isn't a main?
I know there is so many more I just can't seem to think of them at the moment. :/

I barely remember what the show is even about (I was a kid when I watched it), but i did enjoy the show (surprising because the main show I was enjoying that season was gundam seed).

Anyway, its all about geniuses, and of course, the main character is one of them.

I couldn't find the case closed anime in the website.
And I readed the plot summary of durarara it looks interessting thanks!

Ah glad I could help out, sorry you couldn't find Case Closed but that might have been my fault. That anime has a few names though I think the most recent name for it is actually "Detective Conan" but most people wont sub it because its actually one of the longest running anime series to day (I've seen a few newer episodes subbed recently though), started airing in 1996 and its still airing~ xD Hard to find sub groups that would want to sub so many episodes. Anyway I hope you enjoy Durarara!! its one of my all time favorite animes. :)

A lot of people have a hard time getting into Conan because of the old fashion style of animation so its understandable. Its basically just solving crimes throughout the series, like watching CSI or something. Sorry that wasn't a helpful one, I'll keep on the lookout for you though, I've been going through my MAL account trying to think of some to name off for you.

Few other titles though I don't know if they are up your ally or not as they aren't geared toward action and what not~

I adored this anime, the main character is very smart at figuring things out with very little information but he is extremely lazy and hates doing anything he doesn't have to but keeps getting pulled into solving mysteries by a girl he meets from school.

~GOSICK~
This was another easy going mystery solving anime that features a goth loli girl who is basically Sherlock Holmes.

I know they aren't much but I'm trying~ I'll keep looking around though for you~ :)

The World God Only Knows: Katsuragi Keima - I really like this anime, the main character is an avid bishojo game player who is forced to make "real" girls fall in love with him by using his galge experience.

Mahou Sensei Negima: Negi Springfield - I love how he's a genius mage who goes up against people way above his level (Evangeline, Fate), yet somehow manages to keep up with them using his intellect. And if you've read the manga, you know about the epic fight against Rakan! :D
