Go watch anime with subs. LOTS OF IT. Then start watching it without looking at subs. After you understand at least half of it, go playing VNs on japanese with google translate in your hands for help. After two or three of them you would be quite surprised at your skills at japanese...

I'm trying to learn hiragana but it's far too tedious... I made flashcards and stuff but nothing stays in my brain. I know the first few kana, but thats it. And a few others like 'no' and 'ka.'

I learned both english and japanese just by playing games and watching anime... I inserted myself in the language, not inserted the language in me.

The way I explained is much easier, more fun, and less brainstorming. The lead thing is to start thinking on the language you are speaking... English isn't even my country's language btw, I learned it in a way I explained you....
