Shana only lose a bit in light novels and only one moment, pretty much they keep winning each other by times (depend on the volumes) for your information. As for index anime, its been kinda meeeeeeeeeeeeeeeehhhhhh for the recent arcs, though comparing SnS and index is almost the same with some good arcs and some bad arcs.
Charaters wise, Touma is the same as Yuji. Other adult characters are far more better than main characters in Index and SnS.
