    ah well i don't have any native friends at all. actually, i want to hear some Japanese ppl's opinions about fan translations. you know, C&D stuff.

    and if possible, i'd want some native to help me write August as well.

    hmmmm it took me quite a while, maybe several months before i can understand grammar. my first untranslated VN is Happiness! For your first VN i recommend something that doesn't have many choices. i recommend Fortune Arterial XD because it's quite linear and the choices are easy, and the vocabs are easy too.

    and always turn agth on but never use atlas. copy/paste into a dictionary for accurate translation. don't try to consult the dictionary every time tho. try to memorize some recurring terms too.

    this is just my point of view so maybe this way of study is not recommended haha

    vocabs aren't really the most important thing for starters. first you only need to know enough vocabs (and some fundamental kanji as well) in order to study grammar: sentence structure and verb conjugation and such (i make grammar my priority).

    once you understand grammar good enough just go for it. go pick some VN to read. you'll mostly learn vocabs at this stage. and you'll be using the dictionary a lot of time. and, as i said, once some words appear often enough you'll eventually remember them.

    learning spoken language (for example, -chau instead of -te shimau) IS A PAIN tho. D: it can take long to find what some colloquial speeches mean. if you can't find a book that explains this, your best bet is to ask someone experienced.

    i just learned enough vocabs to let myself study grammar. and after that i never bother to learn vocabs from books again. when my grammar was good enough i just went straight for a VN. if i see a word often enough i automatically memorize it.
    it took almost a year for my "first time". but after that it gets exponentially faster. XD
