A Profile is pretty good. there are only 3 routes, so it's not too long, but each route has its own story. it has its sad moments, but it's not too bad. it's an Akabeisoft2 game
Aoishiro is a supernatural kind of game. it's also a yuri game, but it's for all ages. i really liked it, it has largely to do with some kind of local legend. i don't know if the legend was made up for the VN or not though. it probably was
Canvas 2 is about an art teacher who lost his chance to be a famous artist. there are only 2 routes that aren't with students though. but it's still pretty good. it doesn't take very long, because there's a lot of text that stays the same even in different routes
the Da Capo series is really good. they're both pretty much the typical story about a guy going to school, and has his choice of a few different women. there is a small supernatural aspect to it though
hoshizora has weird route choices i think, since there's an imouto route, and a little girl route, but it's still a really good VN that i recommend. it does involve a lot about space though, and..... i wouldn't say aliens, but it does have something like that
kamidori alchemy meister is a vn, but it's a game too. it doesn't play like rance though. it's turn based. i don't exactly like it as a VN, since it only has 2 times when it asks for a choice, but it's a good game
Tick! Tack! is a continuation of Shuffle!, but for Nerine's route. they go back in time. it's weird, but if you like Shuffle! you should play it
Sono hanabira has 8 games in english. each one is very short. it is a yuri VN, and there are a lot of H-scenes, but they're cute couples. there aren't really any big conflicts in any of the games
