Besides Chinatown, we also have a Japantown (J-town) too which is closer to where I live. I spend more time in Japantown then in Chinatown. It has some decent grocery stores, but finding a good Japanese restaurant there is difficult to find. Most of the restaurants are geared towards tourist which to me doesn't really taste authentic. But they do hold Cherry Blossom, mochi, and other street festivals which is a blast to go to.
Starting in the spring to fall, San Francisco hold many street fairs/festivals. The theme sometimes is based on the which district the street fairs takes place in. For example, Haight Street fair...you can probably guess. Union Street fair, where all the cool clothing shops and hipsters go and walk around. It's great to shop there too.:)
