Yeah, it's easy to see why girls who are into otome stuff usually don't like such games. Games meant for guys often depict girls as, ugh, passive... docile, submissive and all that.
They sure seem to be getting more and more common everyday, even on Steam, and many of them seem to have good ratings and reviews too.
That's true, though the "hate it or love it" thing was just my observation. It's like, for people who play otome games regularly, they either like Otomate's games or hate them―there's no middle ground. I personally think they're pretty okay (though most companies who have made a bunch of games have their good days and bad days anyway). Sometimes it feels like a waste to drop games halfway through, though I've done it so many times myself (;´∀`)
