The boy has chains cuz theyre the manifestation of the chains around his heart which keep those shards that the darkness left in him from taking over~ The lance is actually quite a bothersome weapon and mostly for people on horseback during those jousts~ Though the pair can pretty much materialize any weapon which they wish~ And the boy's chains can transform into weapons if he chooses to do so with them~

The dark lord swiped at the boy with his sword of light but the chains were just powerful enough to endure the impact~ Girl the swooped under and tried to impale the lance into the dark lord's chest but it was blocked by the other blade~

To confuse enemy? Chains could easily be used to capture enemy's weapon. She summoned a lot before, so she is used to wielding lances. Actually, that all depends on the length of the lance, it's tip and how well you can use it. If it's not that long, it's tip is a long two-sided blade and you are able to wield it, you will easily be able to take out a swordsman before he could even reach the distance at which he could reach you.

At that moment, the owl waiting for this opportunity dived straight at dark lords neck clad in darkness, making him jump back trying to create the distance. But the pair wouldn't let him. They continued their assault on him. Boy wielded his chains attacking with turning movements so that he could limit movement that could be done by dark lord.
