[MENTION=18465]renano[/MENTION] I was actually originally thinking of getting an SSD for the grand prize, and spending about $60- 100 on it, but I figured that might be overkill for our purposes. As a side note, I thought I might have been one of the only people here who money isn't really an issue for (though of course I also don't spend it unless I deem it a good reason, which is basically how I got it in the first place). For that matter, I just finished working a shift over 9 hours, and I don't bother taking breaks.

In my opinion, having prizes like gift-cards should encourage people to put their best effort in, and hopefully get a few more people interested in it (because it has something they want). When we are actually ready to make the contest, I'll consider how much I feel is appropriate to put in, and maybe have a few different prizes (best of show, most creative, most luscious mustache, etc.).

Also when judging, I see such high level of technical skill on a daily basis that an entry would have to be pretty high-quality to impress me on technical merit alone. Technical skill is still very important, but I want to see things that look cool or are interesting ideas aka creative.

Well lets say i think its a bit much to put that much into it right from the start? Want to poke the other contests that we had a bit to see first? Maybe have there be such prizes in latter contests, but for now, are our contests really at a scale that deems it worthy of a largish sum? Might actually be nice to have more categories though~ Maybe get rid of the first second and third place thing and just have best overall with some that focus on certain aspects~

I follow a couple hundred artists on various websites, and I was in Fine Arts school for a bit over a year. If only I was a good artist myself... :)

Exactly, that I why I decided that scaling down the main prizes to say ~$20 seemed like it would be more fitting. Having a few different categories for wins rather than 1, 2, 3 seems like a better option too (though of course we should still do a bit number 1 so someone can feel extra special :)).

Oh youre much more artsy than me in that aspect ;p Im too lazy to really bother with artists around here x3 A year isnt enough though ;p If you kept at it for a few more years~ Also depends on how you draw and stuff i suppose...

Oh, I dropped Fine Arts school because I could tell they weren't going to teach me how to actually get anywhere with a career. I realized it was going to be a huge pain to try to get any kind of work for the rest of my life, so I wanted something more stable and switched to Computer Sciences.

And yes, I think there should always be an actual "winner" and then the other categories. Otherwise the contest becomes a bit strange (in fact for this reason I would suggest not actually saying there are other categories until the contest is over, so we don't end up with people trying to game it rather than give their best go).

Hmm you mean like they focus on one category and drop the rest? I wonder if the other categories should get a vote as well... or maybe just give the choice to the judges... :/ Well i guess the voters might get a say as well...

I say voters might help for the grand prize/main winner, and judges choose other categories. That seems to be sensible (though I'm not really sure how the voter thing works anyways... I don't like it when these turn into a popularity contest).

The votes are just for people to vote for whatever they think is the best? We might allow multiple votes per person so they can choose a few pieces they think are good~ Judges choosing... Hmm i guess they should put a little thing for why they chose something xD

Well if judges don't ultimately choose there is no point in having them. :P

I'd hope to put at least a little blurb why I liked a piece if I was putting my vote towards it. :)

Yeah I guess that probably isn't so bad. I just have to be careful not to be really to some and not to others. ;P

I don't think anyone would be able to understand.

Well put ! That would about cover it. Though I was just imagining them giving the other CPR or wthr its called...heart massage and crazy stuff. If one gets shot in the heart, the other ones heart will still beat...so in order to kill it, you have to kill both at the same time. Even a headshot won't do, cause the head will just regrow as long as the other part is still alive....
