Drops seems to be the same, but rewards are different.

E-1 rewards
Hard(甲/Kou): chocolate, Mamiya, Furniture Fairy, 2 Improvement Materials, Reppuu (601 Squadron)
Normal(乙/Otsu): chocolate, Mamiya, Furniture Fairy, Reppuu (601 Squadron)
Easy(丙/Hei): chocolate, Mamiya, Furniture Fairy, Reppuu

E-1 clear, but My drops were... Fusou, Atago, Tone, Nagara, Hiei, ..... :(

There doesn't seem to be that much a difference in drops as well... I guess I'll give Normal a shot and if it gets difficult I'll go back to Easy. I'd like more Furniture Fairies too :D

I cleared E-1 now.
Got a sub x2, Kongou, Kirishima, Haruna, Hyuuga x2, Ise and a bunch of smaller ships.
No Hiei. Apparently that's too much to ask.

Just got back from Uni, but from what I read whilst I had some free time today, you will not be able to change difficulty once you cleared a map, also at any point during which you change difficulty, the boss HP bar will RESET. So if you want highest tier reward, I suggest starting hard and work your way down difficulty. If you just want to unlock the ship girls then I think as far as people are concern there is no change in drop list, however I'm not sure whether there will be increase RNG to rarer ships the higher difficulty you try, since it is the first time that a tiered system is introduced. Consider this event extremely easy because there is no locking ships in this event as far as people is concerned.

I'll post anything else I discover along the way and will post my set up/composition as I progress and after I cleared a map, I'll also be attempting all maps at hardest difficulty. Smooth sail fellow Teitoku!

[EDIT] Just did a glance to see whether there was update on the event reward, please be noted that if you're going for http://kancolle.wikia.com/wiki/Prototype_51cm_Twin_Cannon it is only available in E2 as hardest difficulty only reward for clearing the map. And hardest difficulty is only available to admiral level 80 or above only.

Thanks for the answer! +30 firepower is insane! I might try it out, but I guess hard mode will be too difficult with my half-assed fleet. I will start with E1 tomorrow, so I will post my results later.

EDIT: ok, i tried E1 once after all (on medium). easier than expected. they played the ED from the anime at the boss node. :3
