It's not really necessary to hide the name though, since we could just make it passworded or 'invite only' (I assume you know how to do it?).

About the nick which already used by someone else, you could try adding numbers or signs behind it. For example, if my nick (redcat) is already in use, I'll just use redcat~ or redcat_ASF or redcat666 to make sure that everyone in the channel can recognize me instantly.

Yeah, the server will automatically tell you if a nick is already in use.

But there's also cases where you can't access your own nick (even if you've registered it). It usually happens when you have bad internet connection which makes you disconnected from the chat, but not logged out from the server. Just wait for 5 minutes, and try claiming your nick again. Or, better yet, register as many backup nicknames as possible, so that you can switch quickly between nicknames in case of connection problems.

When irc kicks you because of a bad internet connection your first nickname will remain online for a while and you will be switched to another nickname for the time being until the first one times out and you change back...

Just in case ushio doesn't have time to fiddle with irc's channel setting, I've made a 'temporary' ones for us to use. It's secured and pasworded, and only registered nicknames can enter. Please check it in ushio's forum, and report wheter you can access the channel or not.

Edit : I have changed the channel setting so that you don't have to use registered nick to enter.
